I am so sorry to hear this, and also happy that you made it out and got your life back. I do not know you that well but I always see other people talking very highly of you and your wife and I am really sorry you had to see someone you cared for die and I am especially sorry for his family and kids.

I don't mean to change the subject with this question, but you said he died from a massive heart attack from mixing heroin and alcohol. Can mixing alcohol and oxycontin give you a heart attack too? How does that happen because I always thought upper drugs gave you heart attacks because they speed up your heart.

I feel your pain well my friend , I lost a sister in 1989 a brother in 1999 and now another brother in 2009 . All from substance abuse . I'm happy for you that you chose another life . In time you will see how lucky we are the ones who dodged the white rabbit !  Stay well !    Jimmy

I am adding my thoughts and prayers for you both, his friends and family that he leaves behind.
This is why we need to have gratitude for our recovery. This is not an easy journey and as they say in NA  if not arrested, addiction leads to jails, institutions and death. There are not many who are able to make it back to the other side. We have to remain diligent in our efforts to stay clean and sober. As addicts, we know of the unique pain and sorrow of fellow addicts who die of this monster disease. May they all find glorious peace in their passing. God bless, Corey

James I'm so very sorry for your friend Darren.. words can not convey the depth of my sorrow for how you feel his family and all others that are effected. This is the ultimate sadness that is Heroin addiction. My friend my Brother what you are experiencing is survivors guilt.. this is not in no way your fault. You did what you had to do to save yourself your dear wife and your family. we all know the risk when we are courting the devil.. My prayers I send up with yours that he finds peace at long last in our Fathers arms..
Please do not be discouraged that your post was moved. they judge what they think belongs where I think with out fully understanding addiction and what every addict needs to hear.
I hope enough find this post that prayers will be added for strength for you during this time. I'm here for you.. letakos
