Dog lovers HELP.......

My two dogs got into a fight (over a piece of chicken).  My poor Zippy has 2 deep teeth punctures on her paw. I tried putting Neosporin on it, but she just licks it right off.  If I wrap it , I'm sure she will get it off in a matter of second.  Do these things heal on their own ?   I'm just so broke right now or I would have rushed her to the vet.  Should I take her tomorrow ?  I'm a very worried mother right now.

I cant stress how important I think this is. The Merck Book of Veterinary Prognosis and Therapy. Its by the Merck Drug Co - Just like the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy for humans........  Get the same books the Pros use and you can do just fine .....

Nauty..........my dogs don't have tails.   Just little stumps. lol   (I didn't have their tails removed they came that way )

Poor Zippy got up this morning and won't put any weight on that leg, and it's swollen. :(
Antibiotics won't be ready until 1 today.  :(

Thanks everyone !    It was actually my mother that was giving the dogs the chicken. Luckily I was right there.  I've told her many, many times that when she gives them thier treats (usually biscuits)  to give them to them at the same time. (she never listens).  I always get a treat in each hand , so the dogs are separeted by me.  My mother does this.....and one for you thing.  I should go bite her. grrrrrrrr
Thanks again everyone.

Have you posted this in the dog forum?  I can't tell if you're talking about a cat or a dog = (

Your pet might need antibiotics - mine did; he/she might also heal quicker if you put polysporin or neosporin and then bandaged it to keep your pet from licking it off.  After it begins to heal and gets itchy, there is bitter apple spray to stop the pet from licking the wound or something called "YUK" - an anti-lick gel.

Hope your pet is doing well.  Sorry I couldn't tell if you meant cat or dog; he or she  lol

We have four dogs and have to be careful about "food fights".

There are a wide variety of pet treats available that dogs find just as special, and which are much safer... we use the large dog biscuits (Milk Bones) for the 'special' dog, and give any other dogs present smaller dog treats to prevent arguments. ;)

I used to let my animals have people food occasionally, but the more I read about the damage our food can do to animals, the more I try and share the warning.

HelpinUtah.......Thanks,  I washed it pretty quick and got neosporin on it. It's not really a puncture, more like a tooth scratch. lol  Between me and Zippy the blood was flying. and their sat the birthday girl (Sadie) unharmed.   At least , I think Zippy got the piece of chicken. lol

Mary:
My mother in law had a minor bite from one of her dogs and it turned into a nasty infection.  The doctor told her that whenever you get even a tiny bite from a dog or cat, you need to have it cleaned and treated properly by a physician.  So, please watch it.

I'm sure the antibiotics would be a good idea. I always freak out too when something happens to my dogs. One of my dogs tore a part on the pad of his paw recently and reluctantly I listened to my fiance and just let my dog (dogs, my other dog helped him lick it, lol) lick his paw all he wanted. didn't seem to hurt anything, and I was so surprised at how fast it healed! So, as long as its stopped bleeding, I don't think you have too much to worry about.. I also sing to my dogs on their birthdays, lol :) xoxo

Nauty..... Opps  I did pull them apart and I did get bitten.lol  It's not deep though. Not even really sure which one bit me.lol   I think Sadie bit Zippy and Zippy bit me.  So there sits princess Sadie (the birthday girl) with no bites.  I think I will go bite her now.
Have you always taken your dogs to the vet after a bite?  If it gets to looking bad, I will get her in. (even if I have to prostitute myself )lololol

Lovepat ....thank you. tommorow I will pick up some iodine, and I have a refill on dog antibiotics I will get also.

Mary......If she can walk ok, just let her lick the hell out of it.  My dogs do the same thing and it is scary.....you cant stop them.....mine get in fights so bad that I had to ask the vet how to handle this and the best thing to do is grab by the tail and pull them apart so you dont get bit.  I did that once with my dogs, and pulled one of the tails and it did work but the other in the process got the best of the one I  pulled....it sucked but it worked.......thank god.

I would give it some time ...keep an eye that it doesn't get infected.  Hopefully she is not in pain....what a birthday present.......::-((

(hugs)

Nauty.........

My dogs usually never get people food, but today is Sadie's birthday, so it was their treat.   I know what your thinking.......she's one of those weird dog lovers that has birthday parties for her dogs.......No I don't ......but I did make everyone sing happy birthday. lol

I remember that the vet told me cats don't do well with puncture wounds. My cat had one on her ear and I didn't see it, what a mess that was.
Thanks for responding.  I'm starting to calm down now.

It's stopped bleeding . It did go pretty deep right near her pad and then one on the top of her paw.

Hi mary !!   My dogs do this all the time....Dont put anything on it right now.  How bad is the puncture???.....is it bleeding and really deep.

Its best to let her lick her wound right now, and as long as it doesnt' get infected....if its real bad they may have to cone heard her.

How bad is it????
