ADDICTION: SOCIAL COMMUNITY
Fioricet w/ Codeine

Fioricet w/ Codeine

I was prescribed Fioricet w/ Codeine last Friday, for a migraine/tension headache.

I am always one to do some serious research online, before using any meds.

During my search, I found discussions mentioning that you can become "addicted" to this medicine and go through "withdrawals" from it, within 5-7 days of using it. This seemed scary (and odd) to me.

I took 1 pill on Friday, 1 on Saturday, and 2-3 on Sunday and Monday.

Is it really possible to go through withdrawal, if I don't take some tomorrow? My headaches are better now......

The drug fiorinal and fiorcet contain butabutal which is a barbitute. Barbituates are addicting and can cause a person to have seizures when detoxing from them.  Coceine is an opiate which is also addicting.  I don't think you are addicted to them because you haven't taken them long enough, but they are a drug to be careful of.  My late husband was addicted to them and would take between 30 and 50 of them every day.  The detox from them lasted alot longer than a detox from regular opiates.

Just be careful and follow the dosage.

RCSLADY is right.  I think you're still okay.  Just be careful.  I was actually addicted to those at one time.

What would be considered "addiction"? Taking a pill or two everyday?

For me "addiction" was having a bottle of 30 and going through them in two days just to see how much of a buzz I could feel.

I describe addiction as having to have another. Ex. One person may take 8 a day another 2 a day but how hard is it to put them down. The more you take of course the more likely addiction will happen. As for me I know that 2 a day leads me to wanting more and then I crave one the next day because I have a slight bit of headache. These are really designed as a last resort pill. My headaches actually became every day and then it became that I just wanted a pill. So I am weening myself off of them. At first I thought yeah these are easy to put down but after about 4 or 5 months of taking them it to me seems I need to lay off because I am scared of an addiction and don't want to be dependant on them. I did some research and found that a barbituate can build up to a toxicty point. Anyway be careful.
