Fuel Prices in your area?

Fuel Prices in your area?

I am curious as to what gasoline and diesel prices are around the country, and the world for that matter. Do you think lybia has that much influence with oil production as to affect a significant price increase? What is the cause of this increase, in your opnion?

Prices in my area jumped yesterday, from $2.97 to $3.10 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, and diesel fuel was @ $3.50 per gallon this morning on my way to work. Any thoughts or comments?

Unleaded and Premium fuels are $2NZD per litre which equates to $6USD per gallon. Diesal is cheaper in NZ than Premium and Unleaded and normally tracks at around 3/4 the price of Unleaded( $1.50 per litre) The cost of fuel is much more expensive here because we are geographicaly isolated. Shipping costs must ultimately be absorbed by the consumer.

The American share of the Libyan fossil fuel market( which only represents a small percentage of global oil production) is very small( less than 10%) and there are still many more reliable and secure supplies from other oil producing countries. How the crisis in Libya translates into disproportionate fuel price increases here in NZ, the US and the rest of the world is a mystery to me.

I only have a laymans understanding of global economics. At a guess i can see how the Libyan crisis can motivate speculative energy markets to stockpile the available oil from secure sources( North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Middle East) in anticipation of a much larger energy crisis. The increased competition for the remaining, available supply drives up the barrel prices which are inevitably reflected at the local pumps.

Libya is the 9th largest producer of fossil fuels and the largest source of crude oil in the African continent. Any threat to this supply( however small and inconsequential on the global scale) is enough of a catalyst to drive up fuel prices everywhere. Europe(France 33%, UK 15%, Austria 10%,) is by far the largest consumer of Libyan oil and therefore more vulnerable to the impact of any threat to this source .

The cynic in me imagines fat energy moguls rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation of increased revenues caused through the suffering of innocent people in oil producing nations. The current Libyan crisis is justification for Energy Giants to increase the price of their own stockpiles/reserves which they purchased at normal, pre crisis value for post crisis, inflated prices. The increase is never proportionate to the percieved risk or the true cost to them. I dont understand how a $3-$4 rise in the value of a barrel of crude translates into a 20-25 cent increase per litre at the pump.

So,  i  can see how the crisis in Libya can cause fuel prices to increase, i just believe the increases are extortionate and not an accurate reflection of the true cost to the mammoth energy giants. It is a boon for them, sponsored by the lowly consumer.

Funny you should mention this. Not five minutes ago I was discussing it. We are right around the $4.00 mark (3.98 this morning) for regular and they are predicting it to jump to $5.00 a gallon within weeks.

The thing that really burns me is the gas we are putting in our tanks TODAY has been sitting around in barrels and was purchased by the oil companies at a lower price some time back. They are using the FIFO system on this and we are paying the price!!

I think the cause of the price jump is panic. I don't believe it is based on anything concrete.

Don't get me started......uuugghhhhh

$3.23 in Central IL. Over the weekend I paid around $3.40 in Southern IN.

Don't listen to IBK...She doesn't know what the fuel prices are in the hills since a horse and buggy don't use any fuel. :-P

I miss that $.98 a gallon price!

Our President is going to speak about Libya tonight. Not sure what time but something's up...

Gadhafi should have gone in the palace blowup but he left his infant in his place.Sad and he's crazy.

I'm in Albuquerque NM USA (I have to write it that way all the time;many think you need a passport to enter. Good!!  More room for me!!)

Regular unleaded:  2.98-3.19
Diesel:                  3.25-3.65

Ha ha ha........My husband pumps all the gas in the winter time. Isn't he a doll.. Today in NC I believe we are hovering somewhere aroung $3.06 to $3.15...............But gas prices have never stopped us from doing what we want............Like trips to the beach 3 hours away or trips to the mountains 3 hours away..............Riding the Harley every weekend that it is pretty............ We just keep going.
It is what it is.........................

In Australia for high octane unleaded I pay around $1.35 Lt,which is approximately $5.40 per gallon.
Regular unleaded is 4 or 5 cents a litre cheaper.

3.25 for 87 blend unleaded, it goes up a dime more for 89 and 91 blend.

The gas stations arent making squat on gas or diesel anymore.  I get blamed quit often about the prices.  I finally told one old geezer who got right in my grill the other night that I raised the price as i knew he was coming in...he just rattled his teeth in his mouth, paid his bill and left.  That will fix him!!

I hear that. Working at a truck stop is probably the worst. They get so freaking insane about everything. I have had beef jerky sticks thrown at me, cussed at, screamed at, threatened. I mean if you don't have everything perfect and they don't like the price of your diesel, it's like their life ***** and you are paying for it.

I think the most ridiculous one was when a guy came in and wanted "diet sprite", I told him that I was sorry we didn't have it", then he complained about the gas prices. I said "I just work here, I don't get any of that money, as far as the diet sprite, you can tell the store manager that we should carry it". He went storming out of the store and yelled "you guys need a truck bomb is what you need", I yelled at after him (not really knowing what to say and having a warped sense of humor "can you do it when I am not here".

Freaking jerks...............

Shut up Brian or I will come up there and beat your bippee!!

The prices dropped quite a bit today but will start to rise again with this scare. I do live in the sticks but I am less than 15 minutes from two Ski Resorts and Presidents Day Weekend is the last big weekend for skiing so they jack up the prices every year. This is the highest I have seen it in a while.

Anyway, I still think it is unfounded panic. Libya only produces 2 to 3% or the world's oil. That's not a lot and the Saudis would pick up the slack if need be so these folks need to clam the heck down. The economy is in bad enough shape, we don't need this right now!

My first car was a Volkswagen Beetle and it the price to fill the tank was in the $3.00 range. Dang, I miss those days.

Okay...I know for a FACT the prices are the same all across the city now : $3.16   ..

Last night, late, and speaking of truck stops,I went to fill up where I always go. Boy,the truck drivers are really in a knot.  Very upset. They have no faith that the prices are going to stay down or the same. They see it out of sight by July, one guy told me. I usually go inside and have coffee with these guys and they know what they're talking about.  Calif.
is at $4.55/reg in some areas and it goes up from there.

There's PLENTY of oil in the Gulf of Mexico BUT no drilling is allowed. Considering how long it takes for crude to be available for process and then reach it's way to our gas tanks,
we're in for a long,mysterious haul!

It makes me angry...we've got it but can't use it.   Who do I call or screw???

What in the world were you doing at a truck stop "late" at night? Is the truck stop you visit kinda like one of those local small town restaurants where the farmers all sit around, drink coffee and bs each other? Did the cashier get in on the conversation?

Brian-- I get gas at the truck stop because usually it's the cheapest in this part of the city.
This city is enormous;there is open space but no farmers sitting around anywhere. It's not a walking city at all. The truck stop  is off the interstate,so I can zip right in. I have to
put premium in the Jaguar and it makes me mad so I go to the truck stop because I'm cheap and the guys buy me coffee. But,there is a lot of BSing and, yes, the cashier always
tries to get in on the conversation. The thing is,she only speaks Spanish,no English, and this makes me furious. When I'm "buying" I always use the exact change, too.

I just like to go late at night...less traffic, less sitting in the car.
Are you writing a book?
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Brian-- And what difference does it make?  I can go out late at night if I want to. I'm not 12.

Or are you implying something about my character?  What? Women aren't supposed to go out after dark in your world?

Then..you put gas in my car!!   Or shut up!
Blank
1047946_tn?1332611629
Maybe I will write a book. If I do, I guarantee it will be fiction. It will be full of very tall tales. So tall they will be unbelievable, literally.

Well, if you want to go there....I just watched 20/20 the other day and they had a show about what kind of women were hanging out at truck stops at night. Can you say..."sting operation"?!!!

Honestly I'm worried about your safety. But I'm guessing the cashier at your truck stop knows karate and in the past has probably taken down at least 3 robbers at one time while dialing 911 with the free hand all while brewing a fresh pot of java.

Anyways, in my world women aren't suppose to go out at all........period.....(please don't tell my wife I said that).....lol

I think I'll shut up now...oh, and I'll put gas in your car.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Brian--First,it isn't MY truck stop. I don't own it although I feel as though I do for all the money I spend there!  Well,it's not all to them and their costs. They have slot machines and I like to play.

AND, i don't "hang around" there. I usually have things going on.

Robbers? Karate? Java?   It's more like gangs, fists, and black coffee.

This is off topic here. This was never about me. So sorry.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
Real fast on the truck stops. A huge majority of prostitutes at these fueling stations are extremely noticeable. They will hang out but also never buy anything really. Even though I am thinking Brian that you were joking for the most part, I was just clearing up some things. I have not just worked at a truck stop, but also grew up around a lot of them. I knew women and men that would come in and talk to the cashiers or each other. It's kind of like an adult hang out. Also, women who do this, don't stay at one spot to long for obvious reasons. People selling stolen items or pirated movies are more of a problem as a rule. Also, it's only really dangerous at truck stops when you go to the actual truck parking lots. Anywhere there is lighting, people are usually safe. Officers of all types (specifically highway patrol) go there all the time......................sorry it wasn't really fast.

Regarding the gas thing, the oil owners use any and every excuse to raise gas prices. A driver could get kidnapped in the middle east and once it's on the news. gas prices sky rocket. It's all a bunch of crap. I talked to a gentleman when I worked valet at a casino, he was some kind of suit for an oil company. He informed me of some really crazy things. It's all about money in any way, shape, or form.

One day humans MIGHT make it to the point that they can allow themselves to care more about their fellow humans, then about money, but it ain't any time soon. I guess we will see.

They call them "lot lizards" around here.  They arrive in town, do their thing and leave.  Most of the conveniance stores are watched real close here.  We had those 2 clerks shot and killed about an hour away from here so the cops are more alert now.  With the rising gas prices we are more aware of our surroundings now as people are frustrated and desperate.  Gas went up 10 cents here today.  That is 18 cents in 2 days.  People are mad and i got my pedigree read a few times tonight.  didnt think i looked like an OPEC princess but maybe i am wrong!!

Thank God for that little red button we have and hope we never have to use it~~
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
That's what we called them, but "lot lizards" were also homeless people or wheel polishers. Yeah, I had to use the red button. A truck driver got a cashier through being a bully to open a gas lane without giving her any money, check, or card, and he robbed us blind. It wasn't until about the forth person that we realized what she had done (she was to scared to say something) and we had to use the button because there was only two of us at the time, someone had not just taken our gas but put about 50 gallons all over the gas lane. THAT was a busy day.

Gas is not about 3.12 here. I remember being on the end that got yelled at, like I was making the money, so I don't yell at anyone for gas prices, it's not right.
