Hot pads, dish cloth or dust mop?

Hot pads, dish cloth or dust mop?

Ok, tomorrow is my wifes b-day and I am thinking what to get her. As most of you know I am a practical guy, so the three things I am thinking to choose from of are, hot pads, dish cloth or dust mop. I am not sure I could top the vacuum for Valentines day. So I am setting the bar a little lower. I am finishing up the new flooring 3 of the rooms she wanted too.

Ok, if you are being serious let me suggest to you something I just bought. It is the Shark Steam Mop it's safe on wood floors, ceramic tile etc....it's AWESOME. No chemicals needed (no i don't work for these people i am just a bit of a shopper) and it is easy to use and w/my bad back it's even better.

So here is what I do....I use the dirt devil broomvac to sweep the floor (helps my back also) then I use my steam mop and it's very sanitary b/c of the heat and there is no streaks.

So Vic if you were kidding I am going to feel like a total blonde.....but if you were get her jewelry! However, I am pretty practical and like the mop and stuff myself. My hubby got me 5 hours of massage for Mothers Day. That could be a good one.

She just might like the Shark. So I might raise the bar a little, but jewelry!!!!!!

I do have a massage table and will probably give her one for and hour or so.

I thought I would throw the jewelry out there. I only 2 pieces my wedding ring and my sapphire ring for having a baby. Other than that don't see need in spending money on it.

Seriously if she likes stuff like that the shark is great! It comes w/2 pads and you have to put them in the washer and let them airdry but you don't have to buy replacements or anything. I think you can look at it on like target.com or walmart.com. I paid $80 for it at walmart.

I think you should hide some bubble bath or nice soap in the dish towels or dust mop, just so it's not all about cleaning.  Hugs,  Mary

I keep offering to bubble bath with her, but she thinks I have "other" motives there.  lol

Actually she said she didn't want anything since I am doing the florring, but I know better.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
I'm sure whatever you get her she will like. And your right, it's hard to top a vacuum. I just looked at some recently and one was priced over $1000.

well, the Dyson wasn't near that, a little less than half and she still gets excited when she uses it.

Vic,

I hope you are kidding...You can buy her the cleaning stuff but you better get her a personal gift too.
I have two Oreck Vacuums but I didn't want them as gifts. Although that new pink Oreck has my name on it. Anything pink, LOL

If she is telling you she doesn't want anything she is lying. Get her some diamond earrings!!!
Hugs,

I am with Cat...I am low maintenance for the most part. But I always get good stuff when it's not a holiday so I am still a little spoiled.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
Ok, I promise no mop, but she'd shoot me if I bought her diamonds, trust me there. I have tonight to think about it. Maybe I'll plan on starting the day by heading to work a little late and fixing her breakfast before we both have to leave. At least that would be different and start the day off right.

I think I understand about your wife getting mad if you bought diamonds.  I was the same way.  I'd be really happy with new flooring !  My sister always gets diamonds and jewelry. I always seemed to prefer something for the house.  I would have also killed my husband if he spent over 500 without telling me !  As long as you make it a special day, you should be fine.   The best surprise gift I got from my husband was a sewing machine.
I guess I'm low maintenance too. lol

maybe if you got her a BOB you wouldn't have to wait until friday night. she might let you pretend wednesday is friday!

LMAO!!!!!!! I agree with the above 2 statements fully!!!!!!!!!

If you get her a mop and she likes it then wtf I guess she is very domestic good and bad in a way. If you get her the mop and she cries average lady. Don't make wifey cry. I suggest a night out  and dinner at a restaurant and not a buffet LOl unless of course they have free valet parking and a gift that fits in a box about 2"+2" thos ealways make my wife smile.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
If you get her dishrags at least wrap it in a bow. LOL
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
Oh , I learned my lesson about gift wrapping. One year I used the Sunday comics, you know the nice color ones. Well, we'll just say I won't make that mistake again.

If you must get her a cleaning utensil, get her a ROOMBA. The robot vacuum and let it do the work for her. She will love you big time. They are the greatest thing in the world.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
Oh the dogs would love that...lol...they are golden retrievers so guess what they would bring us

good idea though
Blank
306455_tn?1288865671
Oddly enough, they don't really bother the dogs. And I have one that is a foreign object eater and will go after anything, and he just ignores it. Which really surprised me.  Do your retrievers go swimming alot? I had a 1/2 retriver, 1/2 rotty and you couldn't keep her out of pools. She would break into people yards to go for swims in their pools and take naps on the floats.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
They arn't allowed on the pool deck, but they look wantingly. The oldest, Suzie, has gone swimming in a lake and loves it and Mollie, the one in the pics, hasn't been to a lake but loves the creek, or as we say here the crick.,,,lol,,, Kentucky roots showing

Well, I think I am screwed. My wife said that she would really like to have a swiffer power dust mop for the new floors for her b-day. that's the good news.

The part that has me in a panic is she wants to go on a cruise on the Seabourn Cruise Line this winter. Soooooo does anybody need to rent a hubby? (for manly home projects only, I am good for electrical, framing, and wood work projects. I don't do drywall)  I'm easy just not cheap...lmao

it "really" is not about the money to me...but i enjoy getting something that i would not ordinarily buy for myself.  something that smells good...looks pretty...or sparkles would be a good start.  i appreciate knowing that my husband "put a little thought" into my gift...makes it more special!

I have to agree with worried on the diamond earrings. Many years ago my mother in law gave me a pair of diamond earrings and when I wore them I felt like a million $. They looked great and everyone said how beautiful they were. Just imagine the look on your wife's face when she opens up that gift!!!!!  Since it's something she wouldn't expect you to do the surpise will be just that much more special.

just a thought!!!!!!  stop by a pawn shop instead...they have awesome second hand jewelry there and at a fraction of the price.  i found some awesome diamond earrings there this past december when i was looking for a ring for one of my younger sons to give his girlfriend.  i came home and was telling hubby about how "cheap" diamonds were and about the earrings.  he surprised me with them for christmas and i could have cared less that they were NOT NEW!!!!  they look good on the new owner...:)

Good idea, but I think that would land me in the dog house real quick. She is only funny about a few things and while I have never asked her, I would bet that would be one of them.

I have found that Sam's club has nice jewlery at reasonable prices. They do look at you strange when you ask for a jewlers loop and pick through the stock to find the best one.

aaawwwhhh...that's toooooo bad...lol.

when i was married to the "good doctor"...he bought me a 4 carat diamond solitaire ring.  it came from a jewelry store...but it was part of an estate sale.  it was "used"...but i could have cared less.

I need to thanks all of you for your input. I thought about what you said and went to the store and found a nice diamond and emerald pendant and a pair of matching earings, there was also a really nice arrangement of live tulips that could be enjoyed now and planted for years worth of enjoyment.

I bought the flowers for my wife and the pendant and earings for my girlfriend.

Thanks again for all you help.

By the way we do have the Mother-in-law suite avalible. It may need to be spruced up though, no one has used it since the last steer went to the butcher. It is spacious and has running water and electric though...lol

In all sincerity I do want to thank all of you for your help. When I gave my sweetie the flowers and told her that these are for my wife for her birthday she smiled and was happy, but when I gave her the gift bag with the jewelry and said this is for my girlfriend for her birthday she beamed. I have bought her much much nicer jewelry before and it was met with little enthusiasm. Last night she didn’t want to take the jewelry off and this morning she got up early so I could help her put the necklace on so she could wear the set to work.

what is a jeweler's loop??
Blank
429432_tn?1288663911
A jewelers loop is one of those things you look through to see any imperfections in the gems...
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
OIC Had no idea my bro comes with me to check clarity and such I am ignorant to verifying value I just ask for certificate at the jeweler he is a small dealer one store.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
If I plan on spending more than a grand I typically go to our favorite local hometown jeweler, but on the less expensive stuff I do a decent job with a loop, she’ll never get rid of them anyway so  as long as there is no big inclusions she’s happy.
