Husband and I want to stop

I have a chronic pain codition and get 120 lortab 10/650 per month. I am 25 hubby is 27. I share my pilld with him and most of the time they are not taken orally. We both want to stop this. He wants to stop taking them completely and I want to take as perscribed, by mouth. We were doing 5-6 per day each. We think tapering would be best. Any suggestions on a taper schedule. We want to be done with them by New Years Day. I will never be able to stop taking narcotics. My condition is life long and very little is known about it and their is only 1 FDA approved drug for this condition that helps 41% of patients and did not help me. It is uncurable. They can only treat the symptoms and make life bearable. So , thanj you in advanced for suggestions and support. It is nice there are places like this to help people who have no where else to go.

I don't think you get all the narcotic when snorting as it never all get into your bloodstream that way so when you take them by mouth you will get more. That has got to be bad for your nose etc. ALL THE BEST

His intentions are to completely stop taking them. He understands taht I will need them mostlikely for the rest of my life. As long as I start taking them orally and stop doing it the way we do now he will be able to completely come off them. I have reecentl had an increase from 7.5 to 10mg. I only want to increase when it is absolutely necessary. I do no other drugs, hell I don't even drink. I just want to take them as I am prescribed, orally. I have a mental addiction to snorting them. Its not the pills themselves, yet I know I am addicted to them, it is my method I want to  change

Hon, the one problem with these drugs is it's almost impossible to use them at a steady dose, regardless of reason. The longer you take them, the less effective they become, and the more you need. It's why so many pain patients end up on methadone for pain management. It's the strongest out patient drug you can get easily (and the most addictive).

So...you and your husband need to really understand and come to terms with the fact that you're two different people and your needs are different. If you've done that or can do it, then you may have some success.

You should talk to your doctor about the need for an increase accordingly, if that's what you feel you need. Otherwise, I'd tell your husband to taper or stop using, taking clonidine .01/.02 3x daily, and the other aids like the "amino acid" thread on here.
Once he starts, you should consider keeping your med's in a lock box. And don't abuse them, it will make it that much harder for him to watch you doing that.

Yes I do but even if I do my max of 6 per day I am still in the 4000mg of tylenol safe zone.

I have interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome.  I have, last time I was checked, 14 hunners ulcers lining my bladder. I can hold 95cc of urine before I have to empty the bladder. I urinate 60-70 times per day 12-15 per night. I am considering the Interstim implant. I have tried, unsuccessfully, Elmiron, neurontin, tofranil, ditropan, elavil,B&O suppositories, valium, xanax, antihistamines, preflief, cystoprek, dessert harvest aloe vera, accupuncture, nerve blocks, and many herbal remedies. I have also done rescue instills daily and DSMO treatments and botox. 95% of food and drinks irritate my bladder. It spasms so bad youcan see it jumping through my body. 1 year 2 months after I was diagnosed, 3 years after symptom onset, I am on disability. I am so young and have a wonderful child. The though of the rest of my life being filled with pain is the worst feeling in the world. I will look at your tapering suggestions. Also, what is the Thomas Recipe I have seen mentioned here? Thanks again.

Welcome, First you will have to take them orally. There is no way one will quit using addictive routes of administration. I am assuming you are snorting them. Inhalation of tylenol is really bad and can cause many help problems. There is info on tapering in my profile journal that you will find helpful. Just click on my screen name beside this post (its blue) and it will take you there.
What pain condition do you have??  What other treatments are available?? Many of us here started with legit pain and have managed to quit and realized our pain was worse on pills than off due to the lack of endorphin production while taking narcotics.
ALso if you don't get alot of answers tonight check back in the morning its getting late
