I am a single mom who worked hard to raise her daughter to be a susccesful profesional. My daughter's boyfriend is a nice guy but he is a confessed gambler caught red handed lying. He confessed he had this problem after 5 years into their realtionship. Last Christmas he had a financial situation, he owed over 20K and went through a family intervention. My daughter is a successful professional, manipulated by his family. They brain washed her that 'she cannot leave him because it is as if she would leave someone wiht a cancer..." which I think is not comparable -nobody chooses to have cancer, whereas this guy is still gambling and daddy comes and cleans his act... I am worried because he will propose to my daughter, he's got a rock. I have the gut feeling he is gambling again, just four months after the intervention and while attending group therapy. Am I too protective? Am I right to be worried? Is there a cure for gambling? Is my daughter about to jump off a cliff? I have nobody to talk to.

I am not quite sure what to tell you. Gambling can be an addictive behavior. It sounds as if he does need help in the way of counseling from a professional. If it were me, I would be making sure he had a 'clean' bill of health from his psychiatrist or counselor before I would want to see him married. If they have been together 5 years, waiting a bit longer won't hurt.
