Klonopin for panic attacks?

by BlondeBabs, Aug 12, 2007 01:53PM
I posted this on the other forum.  I wasn't sure where I was supposed to post but I need someone to help me understand how to take the klonopin.  My doctor put me on klonopin for panic attacks but it seems to just make me sleepy.  Sometimes I have panic attacks so bad I want to take the klonopin but I can't be productive if I do.  The tablets are 1 mg.  Any suggestions?  Panicky, Babs

You can post on either forum - some people feel comfortable on one more than the other, and others post on both.  I replied on the other forum, but thought I would here, too.

I know this sounds silly, but I had two different doctors tell me that Benedryl can act as a mild anti-anxiety drug.  When I was pregnant I couldn't take my xanex, etc. but Benedryl is safe.  My family doctor and my OB both told me this about the Benedryl.  They said it's good to know because it can help anyone with panic disorder in a pinch - since it is sold OTC everywhere.  Unfortunately it is the 'sleepy' acting part of it that helps with the panic so it's hard to avoid.  But if it's too strong and you're desperate, try the Benedryl.  It never hurts!

have your doc give them to you in .5 mg.  that's what i used when i had panic attacks.  you can put them under your tongue and they work quicker... it worked like a dream for me...

Eventually the "sleepy" effect of klonopin dissipates.  I've been taking it for about a month and the first couple weeks I'd fall asleep at my desk at work, sitting here at my computer at home..just about any place..but now I find they have the calming
effect but I'm finding that I can function much better now.
