**Ladies Need Hair Help ASAP***

Okay, so I have been having the battle of the "Mats" since my hair has grown long.  Does anyone know of a really good detangler.  I have used so many products to no avail and I am so sick of it !!.........I buy these products that say they detangle but they don't.  I am tired of throwing away my money!  I need something that will melt the matted hair !!  I am at the point that I don't even wash my hair for 2-3 days cause it takes to damm long to comb out.  I can hear the hear tearing and it creeps me out.

Help!!!

luv,
Nauty............

Have you had your hair thinned?   I am assuming you have a lot of hair....  I have thick hair  & have it thinned everytime I get it cut.....go figure.....  you would think I would run out of hair eventually!!  :)   KPac  (Joico product) is good      also   Sebastion Potion #9  (leave in conditioner) both work  well   for me.....  as much as any product can for thick long course hair.....      thanks for the question, Nauty  nice break!!  :)

Nauty, I use to have very straight hair, until I went thru menopause. Now I have really curly hair (whats with that?), anyway, I can't get a comb thru my hair when it's dry, so in the shower when I'm rinsing my conditioner out, i use a large toothed comb to comb the knots out. After that I can put a comb thru it without ripping all my hair out.

P.S. If you blow dry your hair, try using liquid fabric softner as a rinse on your hair. It will come out silky soft and tangle free. Really good for long hair. I know this cause I had hair almost long enough to sit on and I drove a convertable......never a knot in my hair!!

So do you use like Downy   after shampooing?  I mean the only conditioner or rinse you use is the fabric softner?  Never heard that one before but it makes a lot of sense!!   Please let me know exactly how to use it,  as I really want to give that a try...  I would think it helps with the "fly aways" when you dry your hair too?

Thanks girls for your input, but I am still at a loss.  I have googled it and cant' find much of anything....grrrr

I don't know if I can put Downey in my hair.......that just seems "sooo wroonng" magi..lol.  If anyone tries it.....let me know.

Once my hair gets wet....its like "STRAW"  I couldn't get a comb thru it no matter what.  I haven't had a hair cut in 3 years.....yep!  I am not going in so they can cut it all off.

LateAugust......My hair is not thick, so if I go to have it thinned-out ...I will look like Mr. Peanut for a year and will have to have it permed, and I want to stay away from the perm thing.  I've tried just about everything that claims to detangle that I can find and it just doesn't do the job.  I had a cheap bottle of Suave conditioner that was really great!  it melted the sheepdog mats in my hair instantly....about a 1.25 a bottle, and, of course........THEY DISCONTINUED IT.......as usual.......

Mind you all.....this is something I need to use every time I wash my hair...can you use the Aussie everyday?...oiy

thanks again.

Matted in Mexico......lol

Herbal Essence long term relationship, thats what it is called and it is in a red bottle. It is for long hair. Put the conditioner in your hair and get a wide tooth comb, like Magi suggested, and comb the conditioner through.I have thin hair that gets matted very easily and this works wonders for me.

LateAugust........This is how I used the fabric softener.......I would save an old shampoo bottle or something similar, put about 1/3 fabric softener and the rest water. Then just apply it like conditioner and rinse it out.  I used it for a while but my hair is very fine and thin and I think it works better for thick, coarse hair. Magi's has the very thick coarse hair and it worked great for her.
You know the commercials where the girls don't even have 1 split end and their hair is so shiny......I bet they use fabric softener on them.
Let me know how it works for you.

have you tried those "hot oil treatments"? I thnk VO5 makes them. They work pretty good. I also find that i need to alternate my conditioners frequently because my hair gets a tolerance to the same one. The best ones I have found are:

AUssie (super moisturizing conditioner for dry/damaged hair)
Clairol Herbal Essance
Pantene
Finesse

and a few others i cant remember right now, lol.. anyhow be sure to buy the CONDITIONER that says for "dry/damaged hair" formula and let it sit in your hair at least 3-5 mins (i usually put it in and then shave my legs and brush my teeth to kill time while Im waiting).

also the spray in conditioners that you dont rinse out work well too. I like the Aussie brand for that. It works well. I have very long hair but it gets tangled easily so I know where youre comin from!  Let us know what one worked for you the best!

PS ive never heard the fabric softener trick!! I have heard of using Mayonnaise before but never tried it..

My hair is colored, and thick, and I live in Fla where you HAVE to wash your hair daily. If suave worked for you, so will Aussie and yes you can use it everyday but the 3-5 minute miracle version is better than their regular conditioner. I also leave a little bit of it in and not rinse it out totally. Highly recommend it and you can get it at just about any drug store or walmart. I used to do hair and the only difference between the stuff you get at the drug store and that that you get at the salon is the price. He He!

Thanks guys........I have used everything from a 1.25 to 40.00 buks a bottle.  The thing is I need it every time I wash me damm hair.  Funny how I was at my moms and she had this bottle of Suave and like I said it melted the mats INstanTly!!  Of, course as I stated ......they must have discontinued it......My luck.

I'll have to try the "long term relationship"  whoo I'm getting excited on that one!!..lol.  I have tried  most all of the ones you mentioned trouble, sept for the Aussie-dry/damaged. I hate the smell of Aussie products......PU

FYI the best conditioner out there is "Pureology"  Its about 30buks a bottle but a little goes a long way.  Not meant for everyday use, though.

Thanks again, ladies......I'm going to try 2 of the mentioned---still not ready for the Fabric Softener....:-))~~~~~~keep em coming....I'll let you know.  Thanks.

luv,

I loved the Downy!!  I used about 2 tbs. with a cup of water......  it worked great!!  And no fly aways with the blow drying!!   I wouldn't recommend it for fine or thin hair tho...  it would probably weight the hair down too much....  great for my hair tho!!  Thank you so much  (or your sis) for the suggestion.

Nauty,  there is one other product I have used  it is called "One Shot"    works well  but  pretty expensive  Orange bottle  black handle ...    My sister reminded me of this product,  but I think one of us got it thru an European shop on line?   We're too old and can't remember , lol,  but  it did work great with the hair  knarleys!!

I would try the Downy tho  when you dont have a hot date  and see if it works for you,  it made my comb out soooo much easier!!!

Ooh! THIS is my subject! (Along with skincare, make-up, ect... Hey, I'm 25! Its allowed! Lol)
If you're willing to spend some $$$, go to Sephora (or on-line) and get Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment (you can get a sample from the store before you buy it). Like I said, its expensive, but I swear its the best on the market. You coat your dry hair with it, leave it on for 20 minutes (or overnight, which is what I do) then wash it out and shampoo and condition (they also have shampoo and conditioner that I use and love, as well as tons of styling products- I should be a spokeswoman for them. Lol). Also they have a leave in treatment called Ojon Revitalising Mist that works wonders. You can also buy from QVC, and they always have the best prices, and you can buy "kits" that have all kinds of products in them. That's my top recommendation.
Drugstore brand... The Aussie is a very good recommendation. Also Pantene Pro-V's restorative line (or renewal.. Can't remember the name) is a good choice. And Infusium-23 is surprisingly good- I say that because you wouldn't think so with how runny it is, but its magic!
In any event, Shampoo is also important. Most shampoos under a couple bucks are filled mostly with cleansers and very little conditioning agents, where as even when you get up to the $5 range, the quality of them goes up and they start putting more conditioners in them, so make sure you use a good shampoo, and an equally good conditioner.
I understand you not wanting to have your hair cut, but it is important for the health of your hair to keep it trimmed. It will naturally split as it ages (not you, your hair. Lol. Just wanted to make that clear) and if you don't trim it, those splits start moving further up the hair shaft, causing more damage and higher up, which is what causes the matting and knotting. If the hair shaft isn't smooth, it gets caught and tangled up with the other hairs. So if I were you, I'd go in for a trim. Tell them you want no more than a trim, even if more is damaged, and just keep doing that every six weeks or so, and eventually you'll get the damage off without losing length. Also ask them for a protien treatment (anywhere from $10 to $15) as protien is really the only thing that will help repair the hair shaft. Everything else is basically aimed at keeping it smoothed down. And buy a product from the salon that has protien in it to use at home once a week. Don't use it more than that, however, because then your hair will really feel like straw.
In any event, there are a few tricks to help you out. Use products that say smoothing or sleek or something to that effect to smooth down the hair shaft, making it lay flatter and thus not get caught and matted as easily. Use some kind of leave-in conditioner- and I would try a lotion type over a spray type just because it will coat your hair better (as well as an in-shower conditioner). If you do any kind of heat styling use a heat guard spray. Try to let your hair air dry.
Oh you know what... I'll just write a book, how about that! Lol. If you want to ask me anything else, please feel free! Like I said, this stuff is my life. Hey, I live in a house with all boys... I gotta have something for me, right? :)
Take care! (and I have plenty more recommendations, so just ask if you want. My fingers are cramping up though. Lol)

Hi sweetie!
I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and my hair never tangles anymore.  I get it at the beauty salon (about $50 for both) and it's fabulous!  It also helps my hair stay healthy and it cleanses the hair from buildup too.  I no longer have straw for hair!  LOL!!!!

I hope you are doing well!  Miss you and love ya!

Hugs,
Janet

Thanks for the input.  I love "SEPHORA"  I haven't been there in a while, and I have a gift certificate I haven't used for almost a year.....hope it's still good.  I will give Ojan a try...

Utah, is Nioxin for loss or thinning hair??........

I don't need to worry about trimming because my split-ends are just about to the root..lol.  not joking

I did find something today.  I was strolling down the rite-aid isle, and I picked up the long term relationship, then out of the fog topped mountain of hair products screamed  "Paul Mitchell--The Ultimate DETANGLER !!  Did I score?....I don't know...I will try that one first in the morning........

I will be opening my own Nauty Salon if I dont' find something..........

thanks again, for all your suggestions......

Luv,
Nauty................

Nioxin does help with thinning hair but I use it to restore my hair to being healthy again.  It worked within 2 weeks.  I no longer have tangles and my hair is shiny again and it just feels and looks healthier.  I love the way it feels on my scalp too.

Nioxin has several lines depending on your hair. It is top notch stuff for restoring your hair. I get mine on eBay. Also, when you do find the right one, see if it comes in a large size for hairdressers. Many lines carry gallon size containers.

I knew you would come around to the Downy. lol  Just don't use to much. You don't want to end up with flat-head.
So hows Mexico ?  Are you all settled in ?

I have used Downy, body lotion, the pink stuff for really coarse hair worked pretty well, and the wide toothed comb in the shower works too. My hair is getting pretty long and I'm not sure if I want to part with it. It's in better shape since I stopped dyeing it, but it's still extremely thick and straw-like. And I'm not sure I like the color. I havent seen the natural color since the age of 13. My husband liked it blonde but it's hard to keep it from turning yellow and the maintenance was too hard since I can't afford a salon colorist=/well...at least it's not gray, which is pretty good at my age.
