I have just read the Matthew Shepard story I have tears in my eyes ,I can't believe it took 11 years for a government to pass a law about hate crimes to include gay and lesbian people,it wrenches at my heart just thinking what he went through, all i can say is thank goodness Bush is out and Obama is in,He was such a beautiful boy what a loss.I'll wipe away my tears now,I hate all violent crime but especially when all it comes down to is HATE.

It is a horrible and tragic story, I so do agree. But his mom is doing such an exemplary job for this not to happen anymore. It's time for mentalities to change.

hey you, yeah it was a horrible thing that happened to him, however in the light of it all, they say his faverate thing to do and infact it is what he thought those two guys wanted to do and was the whole reason he left with them (some will point out that was bad judgement...but he ALL have that sometimes..straight or gay) was talk about the gay movement and current events in the gay world, and he ended up becoming the biggest help in the gay movement, I think that is cool for his memory and all that were//are touched by his memory. I will move on now just wanted to enlight others on this.

I can't believe in this day and age people can be so barbaric, you know after reading his story it puts my life into perspective,I will never ever let my abuser win,he can live with all the guilt and blame, from now on I'm free. And I will look in the mirror as my counsellor suggested and tell myself I LIKE MYSELF and I LOVE MYSELF no more hating me for things I couldn't control,Thank you Matthew Shepard. RIP

Lee thank you for bringing his story to an Aussie girl.

Also thank you Sophieshine for directing me to the website explaining his life,
