Memorial Day

by theeagle, Nov 10, 2009 08:35AM
Yeah -  Its me again.  Just wanted to remind people that we have a bunch of veterans represented on the Forum - -  some sustained the wounds and the therapy that landed them here while on active duty in the Mid East Theatre................It took some others a while longer and different routes to get here.  But every single one of them has made sacrifices that civilians just cannot even know.  Just say "Thanks" to them tomorrow.  They lived sometimes in holes in the ground with clothing rotting off in the jungle.  They sucked on pebbles picked up from the road to promote just a little moisture in parched mouths while deployed to dessert regions..........  If you havent been there you dont know - - but thats the United States.  We have lots of brave and intelligent people standing at the sharp end of our liberty -  and they have sworn to protect our liberties and us with their lives if necessary.  How can you really thank someone for that?

Here in Australia we have ANZAC day on 25th April to HONOUR our soldiers that have have fought in the Boer War in the 1800s to the present day,ANZAC stands for Australian,New Zealand Army Corps. We have parades where our returned servicemen march down the main Rds of our cities the general public line the streets cheering them for all their sacrifices keeping us the free country we are today. On the 11/11 at 11am every year we have a minutes silence for all our fallen heroes we call this rememberance day.Where ever you are shops, work, doctors office everything stops for one minute. In our RSL clubs,RSL stands for Returned Servicemans League at 6pm everynight we have a minutes silence to remember our fallen heroes our Servicemens Oath is read and the Last Post is played. Then we have ANZUS that is our treaty it stands for Australia,New Zealand,United States. My children have been raised to HONOUR all our servicemen in all of the armed services.

Here is to the brave Men and Woman that are serving to keep use FREE, my Daughter in Law is deployed right now, she is an Air Force Nurse and I am so proud of her, her hubby, my son, is also serving in the Air Force and is back at thier "home duty station" he is an Engineer designing systems to help the war fighter, I am so very proud of him too. They both know that they are there to support the ones the line and are doing thier part in the continuing fight for FREEDOM.

We have rememberance day here in Canada every November 11th. With me it is a special day because I have a brother buried in the Moro cemetery in Ortone, Italy. Another brother was in the second wave on D Day. A third brother was in the navy and I myself was in the infantry although the farthest I got from the shores of Canada was Newfoundland. I have a nephew in Afghanistan and other nephews and nieces as well in the military. All my wifes uncles were in Europe during second world war. Two came home wounded and one came home mentally wounded and never really recovered from the horrors that were filling his mind. Only one of her uncles managed to return unscathed.
