I'm a child of the 60's, having grown up in the SF Area during the "summer of love"..my IPOD classic (80g) has around 4000 songs on it, 99% Grateful Dead and related projects (Phil Lesh and Friends, Jerry Garica Band, Ratdog) live concerts I've collected over the years.  I also have some bluegrass, blues, classical and folk music on there as well as Aerosmith (Honkin' for Bobo).

I used to lug tons of CDs around with me in my truck, losing them and breaking them..now I just stick my Ipod in my pocket, plug it into the truck system and away I go!

Ah.., you have to understand that 1) I have a 30 mile commute each way to work and b) I spend a lot of time running errands in the truck.  And I love having music to listen to and I never know what I'm going to want to listen to (Grateful Dead wise that is..depends on the mood) so I have to have a whole mess of them to choose from even if it's only a trip to the local 7-11 for 1/2 gallon of milk.  Thus, I'd lug and handfull out to my truck and decide while sitting in the driveway what to listen to.  A couple years ago I drove from NH to GA and you should have seen all I took with me ;-)  Now..just pop the ipod in my pocket and off I go..also have XM Radio that offers a nice alternative.

Ah, but I don't think you do :-)  With the Grateful Dead live shows you can't do mixes..just won't work..gotta have the continuity and flow of one song into another.  I've often thought of what would happen if I did a random play thing on the Ipod..grateful dead to Aerosmith, to Beethoven's 7th to Asleep at the Wheel, to Albert King, to...well, you get the picture :-)

Jacqui...I think the idea is to go in the opposite direction...from CD to IPOD! or if you want them off of your ipod you can back them up to your pc and create CDs from there...just don't ask me how.

Well, I too am a huge lover of music and haven't counted but probably do have over 1000 cd's.  You would laugh if you saw the variety - everything from the soundtracks from Cats and Les Mis to Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, you name it.  I have Frank Sinatra in my car, along with Dixie Chicks and Lynard Skynard, Queen and Fergie!  I love ANYTHING by the Eagles, Elton John , John Cougar, and James taylor.  Love me some Josh Groban too - Gee what a voice.  I even like some of the tamer rap/hip hop.  I love Alicia Keys and one of my favorites is Golddigger with Jamie Fox.
