My doc gave me this

Chantix.......I heard it helps with w/d's. My doc gave me a rx today.

Over the past decade, bupropion has become a major pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation in the Western world. Unlike other smoking cessation pharmacotherapies, bupropion is a non-nicotine treatment. Compared with a placebo control, bupropion approximately doubles smoking quit rates. Most smoking cessation pharmacotherapies are thought to work, in part, by reducing nicotine withdrawal and craving. This article reviews preclinical, human laboratory and clinical trial studies of the effect of bupropion on nicotine withdrawal and craving. Preclinical studies demonstrate that in rats undergoing nicotine withdrawal, bupropion can dose-dependently lower changes in brain-reward threshold and somatic signs of nicotine withdrawal. Human laboratory studies have demonstrated that bupropion can alleviate some nicotine withdrawal symptoms, including depressed mood, irritability, difficulty concentrating and increased appetite. Moreover, bupropion has shown some efficacy in alleviating craving to smoke. Clinical trials of bupropion have offered mixed support of its ability to reduce nicotine withdrawal, weight gain during treatment and craving. Strong mediational evidence of bupropion's action through relief of withdrawal and craving in smoking cessation is growing. Greater understanding of the psychological mechanisms of bupropion action will likely be obtained through advances in the conceptualization and measurement of withdrawal and craving. Improvements in the efficacy of bupropion may be achieved through pharmacogenetic studies, with particular emphasis on its metabolites. Ultimately, the efficacy of bupropion may be augmented by combination with other agents that target withdrawal and craving through complementary neurobiological processes.

My oldest daughter is such a major smoker, my husband and I never smoked, don't know how we ended up with a kid who is practically a chain smoker.  She gets so nervous and just has to have them.  I really need to get her some Chantix so she can at least cut down.  She will not even go to the movies anymore because she cannot sit through the entire thing without a cigarette.  I feel for you having to deal with two addictions, Tim.  Do you think you should not worry too much about the smoking while you are still trying to deal with the pill think?  Is it too much for you right now?

I have a cousin who stopped drinking and smoking at the very same time.  I don't know how a person quits two addictions at the same time.

Talk to you later.

I read that they are using it for w/d's and figured it can't hurt. :) I really don't smoke that much, but to my doc one is too much. I will let you know how it works out. Smoking is such a nasty habit and the smell is awful. I am just going to concentrate on the pills for now. R2R is also going to try it, who knows, maybe it will do the trick.

Thanks dear and appreciate the input.

Love to ya,
Tim

Can't wait to see if this works for you. Please let me know, i need something! I had never heard of this before, so i will be anxious to hear how it works. Is it a pill? Do you take it everyday? If so, how much of it do you take a day? How long do you take it?

I know lots of questions - just curious is all.
Oh well, you love me - so i know you don't mind answering! LOL

How was your day anyway? You feeling okay? I just posted below about my day, hasn't been to good this evening...

Love you

My doctor gave me a script for it too, It is used to quit smoking and I've heard it works very well. This is the first talk I've heard about its use for wd's. I learn something new here all the time.
