Question for the ladies...........men welcome also.

What is the correct term, in your opnion for the man you are living with/dating?
I have always thought "boy friend" was the correct term however a certian party has informed me that "male partner" is more accurate.

Help me out here,  have I just got so old I have fallen behind times?............male partner just seems .....well ....weird.
Age wise this would apply to those 50'ish, but all opnions are welcome.

Here is the "polite" word.  If I get banned for this, I'll blame it on you, S and the Beagle  = )

The word is:  !&%#$$!&#^!  lol

I call him my "significant other".  When I'm angry at him, he's my "insignificant other".  I use other words too but they wouldn't get past the censors.

Guess I'm the bum or for a more polite term, the gluteous maximus or even posterior region.

Me thinks thou art jealous.....you seem he!! bent on the BUM thing......Seems to me here, that most people's living arrangements with their dudes are pretty productive and happy....In the U.K. the word bum is often used in the place of the word a$$...you aren't British are you?

Very nicely put,and you're right as long as the 2 people involved are comfortable thats all that matters.

And just to clear up what I said earlier my husband is not the idiot I live with.Well not all the time, just when he doesn't listen to me,and only then is he referred to as such, but just to my close friends.LOL My husband is really the love of my life,my best friend,my partner, one of the greatest gifts God has ever bestowed upon me.After all these years and everything we've gone through he's still the one I want to lay next to every night and wake up to every morning.I wouldn't want to walk through this life with anyone else beside me.

A few suggestions:  my significant other,       my partner,    this is the man I love,  please meet the person I am sharing my life with,  my man,  my lover, the person that makes my life just a bit brighter, and complete.......... as   for the homophobic,  good lord they can see whom you are referring to, and if they are still that judgemental  ......who cares??    you know the saying that applies here  and that is    uhm      blank em.

I happen to love men (or the ones I have been with anyway!)   and all of those I have had the opportunity to introduce I did so proudly with whatever words I thought made them (the man) feel the most proud.   Most of my adult life  it   has been my husband,  but he is still  my man,  my love,  the man I choose to share my life with.......and I  loved to introduce him in all those ways or other variations.      Have fun with it,  as long you and he are comfortable with the "term",  that is all that matters!!

Yeah...I'm not thinking the term really applies here. Not in the way your using it.When you got a guy whos working his butt off  and paying the bills and home every night spending time with his family then his family is his priority, marriage certificate or not...Maybe that makes him a family bum and thats alright in my book..I know a lot of married guys who don't do all that....they don't work, they don't pay bills, don't help with the kids, and they're out with their buddies every night of the week,or with their g/f's,in my book thats a BUM and a few other choice words.

Boy-friend!! Call me old (47) but male partner sounds homosexual. I work with many people is same sex relationships and they always refer to their "partners".

My nieces and nephews who live together with their boy/girl friends do NOT use the word partner. They are in their early 20's

I don't understand what makes them a BUM...I lived with my husband before we were married.I moved into his house,at the time he owned 2,I owned none.He had a much better job then me and he paid the mortgage and all the bills. My money went for things like groceries and luxuries. Now that we're married I own 3 homes because he put my name on the deed to the duplex he owned before I met him.He actually wanted to get married much sooner then I did.It was my choice not to get married in the beginning.I know a lot of couples who live together, and in most cases it's the woman in the relationship that don't want to get married yet...and a lot of these men are successful, educated, financially secure men, great guys, not BUMS at all.I'm just curios,if you think the men are BUMS then what do you think us woman who have lived with men not being married to them are?
