*****Question*****

Hey, guys.  Does anyone know if you can get sick from using a heating pad too much.  My legs have been really sore from all the moving and I am on it any chance I get and all night long.   I have to use it cause it helps that nasty dull ache you get from being Out-Of-Shape....:-)~~~I have been moving and destroying things with a sledge hammer for a week off and on and I am going to pay hard for it, but, last night I was helping move a few dressers and got a terrible pain in my chest, I mean PAIN ....I thought it was a heart attack!  I woke up early today and felt fine, but about two hours ago......wHam!  I feel awful....nausea, freezing cold--and its 78degrees here?  Aside from the chest thing, could the heating pad be causing me to feel bad??   I am starting to wonder.  I guess I could google, but.....I don't feel like it..........Oh, and I have tingling in my left leg toes and arm.......hmmm?

Anyone?

Hi there,  I am willing to bet your pulled something in your back, the reason I say this is because when I blew a disk I had leg pain and tingling in my foot. My sugestion is try and Ice pack but only for 15 min, then relax, try heat for 10 to 15 min.  The ice helps the swelling, the heat will help improve the blood flow.  it also sounds like you are dehydrated, drink water, it will help get the toxins out of those sore muscles.  Take care!

Sounds like you may have a muscle pull or strain. Prolonged use of a heating bad can do strange things. It could affect your kidneys, liver and other organs. As others have said, see your doctor about any and all pains.  The body is not built to abide extreme heat. Heating pads are meant for short uses. Anyway regardless of what we think, the doctor is your best bet. Be well Nauty.

Honey:
Please see the doctor.  In 2002, I had some chest pain and finally hubby too me to the ER and it turned out I had a mild heart attack at 39!  I was admitted and stayed there for 2 days and then had a stress test which showed a blockage.  I had a cardiac cath that Monday.  It turned out to be all good and my heart is healthy now.  But, man, it was scary.  The cardiologist told me that many women ignore the symptoms of heart attack because it's different for men and women.  I'm not trying to scare you, but with all the stress you've been under, I'd rather you go get checked than be sorry!
I worry about you!  Love ya!!!
Hugs,
Janet

Good point, trouble........No I haven't checked it?..........uh, duh........Thanks for the reminder......that just might be part of it.  The chest pain was only when I move the furniture.......oh, boy!  it was bad!!  I did feel some shortness of breath yesterday, and a little today, but overall feel better.  No heating pad.  I think the heat was wearing me out when I am already dehydrated and exhausted.  I think I may have pulled something in the move that is making my chest hurt......It's so hard to tell.

We'll see how this little doggie gets along today.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions.......getting out the BP monitor...

unplug it, wait 30 seconds, and plug it in again.  That usually works.  Oh..we're not talking computers here, are we?

Chest pain does not always mean "Heart Attack"............it can be caused by stress.......It put me in the hospital more than once..........same symptoms you described plus tingling in arm, and pinkie, ring finger  ..........might want to check that out, no fun at alI ...........cute nurses tho.........wife said that was what kept me coming back LOL!........doubt it is the heating pad.

I would check it out.

Thanks, Vic......ya, know......I think I pulled something?.......Remember, I was pushin and a pulling and a liftin big furniture, now Curt was taking the brunt of it, but I think I may have just done too much.

I just wonder more about the heating pad thing, cause I started feeling kinda sick after using it A LOT......so, I don't know.  Like the genius said..."on may have triggered the other in some way"  If get to feelin really bad, and continue to be short of breath...I will go,, but I may have just over did it........I haven't worked this hard in probably 8 years....lol.......dang it!

I guess I will have to google the heating pad thingl

hahhahhhaha "FY"........We were posting at the same time.....lol.  You got it right on the choice words :-)  I also learned a good lesson that when you use a sledge hammer always start from the top and not the middle so the top doesn't come crashing down on your shingle riddled back......lol.

I am leaving it for the movers.  sometimes it's best to leave it to the pro's.  but, I am a feisty beast !  and have to admit I am defeated.......:-(((

Dude you are intriguingly InSanE!!!.........I think?

Thanks guys.......I just kinda noticed that I wasn't feeling well after prolonged use of the heating pad, was talking to a girlfriend of mine and she said NO prolonged use of a heating pad, but, she didn't know why......something her mother always told her...lol.

I think I will just lay low for a day or so.  I am getting really winded just petting my dog...lol.......maybe I pulled something cause that was one of the worst pains I have ever felt.  like a sword through the heart and my arm.......Oiy!  scared me.......I have really been busting a move.  Couple days off.  If it gets worse I will see the doc....ugh.  I've had enough of them for now........I hate my doctors!  They don't explain anything to me and everything else is just in your head.  I can see if I am in there all the time, but I am not.  I avoid them like the plague .......friggin HMO's....

Thanks again,
Luv,
Nauty..........

I think I agree with the above.

If it is the heating pad, it's one of those things that Dr. House would love diagnosing;

"The use of the heating pad aggrevated a pre-existing (insert obscure medical condition) caused by eating a piece of toffee from five years ago.

toffee has excessive stores of gluten which stores in the fat cells. Using the sledgehammer exacerbated the condition. Plus; the choice swear words Naughty used while using the sledgehammer caused a heightened state of aggressive satisfaction which activated (even more obscure medical term).

Give her two Maalox Tablets and she'll be fine."  :->

Sounds like time to see your doctor, especially the chest pain.  All the stress your under can cause all different problems. Sorry don't know much about the heating pad thing.
