Same Sex Marriage....Do You Have An Opnion?

Okay, I would really like your input here.

Please act like adults. I’m not mediating this. Please respond.
What is your opinion on same sex marriage?

Should this be a nation wide overhaul of our marriage laws? Should it be decided on a state by state basis, or should it be something of a “Don’t ask don’t tell” nature?

Personally I am straight and have been married to the same woman for over 30 years. I think marriage should be between one man and one woman. When my wife and I go out in public, I do not wrap her up in an embrace and, I don’t particularly want to see anyone else, gay or straight doing it either. (PDA)
I also support the don’t ask don’t tell philosophy, I think things tend to be less “heated” that way.  I am however, in favor of laws that would leave property to the surviving “partner”.

I favor a state by state ruling on the issue with provisions for survivorship nation wide.

I totlly agree with that one!!! Canterbury is closed also a good friend of ours works there and he is just lost-doesnt know what to do. I feel so bad for all the people this is affecting its nuts!! and the State needs money so lets close???!!! wth

Minnesota is losing 200,000.00 a day having the state parks closed.  All rest areas are also closed which is causing some issues for families.  You can bet the fine boys and girls at the Capital arent camping!!   A judge DID open the zoo back up.  I think they should unload all the zoo animals into the capital building, let them loose and see who comes out, that is who i will vote for in the next election!!

Oh I know biblical references are everywhere, Im just saying how can we fall back on saying well its in the bible on somethings but not all?\
I did find abunch of tribes in Africa that practice same sex marriages and also the Mohave Indian tribe here used to have same se marriages. And I think it is legal in Canada and maybe Belguim.
Yeah the budget thing is no good-state parks are loosing a ton of $ and along with the little guys that have businesses around those parks.No scratch tickets no renewing licsenses ect. Oh well less traffic at least lol

Before you testify in any judical matter, you swear to tell the truth by placing your hand on the Bible. In God we trust is on our currency. Our history indicates that our basic laws were founded on Christian principles.

I don't think we should have Bible thumpin' scripture spewin' legislators, but the basics were established on a Biblical  foundation.

Not really sure what would help MN with their budget but, I hope you guys get it figured out before the presidential election. I noticed on the national news there were some very nice looking state parks being closed for the holiday. That seems a shame, alot of people have time off to enjoy them this time of year.

This country (United States) was founded on Christian values and beliefs. That is the reason the Bible seems to dictate what we do as a society.  We as a people are free to live our lives as we please. Simply straying from the Bible does not condemn one to hell.
Clean, do you know other cultures where homosexual marriages or unions are accepted/legal?

Marriage is allowed in every culture weather or not they have a christian bible, so why do we have to live by it even if we dont believe in it?    meaning no disrespect to you or your religion just wondering  why the bible always comes into play with this question

Well, I didn't even read the other posts, but I have an opinion. Yes I believe in a union for gays. But, I believe the bible too, and theres no getting around the biblical language of what marriage is.However, I have a gay daughter, who is in a committed relationship, and we live in ky. They can't do anything but get a legal domestic partnership here because unions aren't even legal. I hate that for her. I have been married almost 23 years. I am straight, I guess u figured that out..lol, anyway, I definetly think they (gays) should have rights...I know my daughter would love that.

It doesn't bother me one way or the other,here it is still not allowed even in a civil marriage,with a celebrant,you can have a commitment ceremony but that isn't legal.
A same sex partner does have rights though in the event of sickness or death.

Instead of national healthcare....lets abolish health insc. all together....sorta level the playing field so to speak. I think most Dr.s rape insc. companies anyway. They would have to bring their cost down to a level a normal working person could afford to pay. Can't speak to the Anthony trial. Iran, Iraq, Afganistan, Let them take care of themselves. New York legalized same sex marriage this week, I think it was this week........anyway that was a discussion I listened to on the radio.
This side was kinda boring...thought this would liven it up, besides there is a whole lot of differing opinions here. Thought we might get a consensus of the members.

Same sex marriage is just fine with me.  Mostly I wonder why ANYONE would want to be married!
If being married is what it takes to give an individual rights to another's benefits such as insurance,property,etc...then great.  I'm all for domestic partners having rights, as long as I don't have to give up any of MY rights to make that happen!

I see this becoming nationwide very soon and that's fine with me.  I know I can't judge what a partnership is any more than I can judge what constitutes a family.  It's a matter of personal philosophy...

i have a son who is in a same sex marriage (civil partnership) to give its official title, they are very much in love and i am proud of him(them)! although i dont know if my view counts being from uk.
as a person on her third (and last ) marriage, and hetrosexual i definately wouldnt judge!

I fully and totally support sme sex marriage, I see nothing wrong with it in any way and dont understand how people can say it damages family values ect. I grew up with a sinlgle divorced mom ( father later died from alcoholism) and during that time i had (have) two gay aunts that have been with the same partners .One of them going on 38yrs and my other aunt going on 22 years. So my role models for long lasting healthy happy relationshios have been my two aunts. I also have three gay male cousins and I have enjoyed knowing every partner of theirs that I have ever met. I guess we all have our opinions and beliefs on this subject but I see absolutley nothing wrong with it.Marriage is for 2 people who are in  strong commited loving relationship and I have seen that in my family and dont understand why they cant be married. H

You got my opinion contained in your post - - its none of my business what two consenting adults do with their private lives........I am straight and have been married for 30 years --------  But, just as in the service, dont ask and dont tell.  I am a Viet era vet and I am quite sure that we had some boys (and now girls!) that were a little light in their combat boots for my taste - -  The only problems that they seemed to encounter came from the higher ranks -
