****Texting While Driving****

Okay, so I was watching the local news and they say that texting while driving is Worse that Drunk Driving.  I see people do this all the time and i want to jump out of my car a smack them....In California they banned driving with your cell phone, but did not ban texting?........Are you kidding me?

What do you think should be done about this?

I've got no problem with texting when I'm driving.

It's all those other cars on the road that are the problem. get rid of them, and everything would be fine!

Actually, I don't text. I refuse to. Maybe it's my age showing but I can't see what's so difficult about just leaving a bloody voicemail. I find texting too slow and too restricting.

Then again, I hate leaving voicemails as well. most people who know me know that if it's a hang up call, it's probably me.

The company i work for, we go thur what is called Smith Driving Course, and talking on a cell phone when driving you can be fired on the spot. But we have nextel push to talk, so they have direct contact at all times, and we can talk on them but cant talk on cells while driving., So what do i do when my work phone rings, take the battery out, LOL works everytime. Oh just cuz a phone rings or you get a txt dont mean you have to answer A.S.A.P And isnt txting going bassakwards didnt they have a form of texting in the 1800s called telegraph, gosh we dumb, and we think we got the lion by the tail.

I am SOOO guilty of texting while driving. But I got a new touch screen phone so its so much harder now that I just wait until I get somewhere to text back, or I just call them. Here in Arizona its not illegal to talk on the phone while driving... (yet)... :)

I have a work cell phone (I'm on call 24/7 for a week each month and essentially all the time anyway)...I frequently get calls from somebody while I'm driving...where I live (new hampshire it's not illegal yet so I'll answer it..if I'm close to home I'll just say "I'm almost home I'll call you back" or if not, will pull off the road.  I try to use my bluetooth but I keep forgetting to charge the darned thing up and if I have my personal phone with me it seems to fight with the bluetooth and it won't work...anyway...the fun times are when I get a work call and a call from my wife on the other phone at the same time..

Yesterday morning I went into the office (first time in 2-3 months) to clean it out as I am now a permanent work from homer..my wife started texting me as I'm driving about 70 MPH and of course I didn't answer and each subsequent message was angrier and angrier because I wasn't responding (and we'd had a fight the night before)..I finally called her and said STOP TEXTING ME WHEN I'M DRIVING! I'LL CALL YOU WHEN I GET TO MY OFFICE...sheeesh...I wanted to throw both phones out the danged window.

Sometimes I get work calls from colleagues in Costa Rica (man I want to visit that country) and them I almost have to take because I can't make international calls on my work cell...or I'll ask them to call me back in x minutes depending on when I'm gonna be home, or else send me an email.

Sooooo glad you dont have my phone number...LOL  I would have to find you and shoot you...Made my niece mad yesterday...told her DO NOT TEXT ME...IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL ME CALL ME...

Was sitting at red light yesterday...watching people....it seems like everyone had their phone glued to their ear....

Police here will stop you and give you a 250 dollar ticket for not wearing you seat belt, but they DO NOT enforce the no talking on cell phone law...WTF?

Here in Australia they have very strict rules about driving whilst on your cell phone.  Texting is a whole new concept and people should lose their licenses on the spot.  There was incident here in Melbounre in February where a 22 y.o. girl was sending a quick text to her friends - "Will b late".  She lost control of her care and killed one person and seriously injured another.  She was not seriously injured.  I see many people on their cell phone, surprising I would see more females.  It is just a matter of the police being in the right place at the right time to catch them.  WOW - I would have made a small fortune by now!!

I have never texted either.  I won't and I don't allow anyone to text me.  I tell everyone ..."If you text me. I wont read it, so dont' bother" and I wont.  He!! I don't even know how to....lol.  I think its stupid.  My friend told me that his Chica texts him up to 10 times per day.  He hates it too and makes her pay the bill.....lol.   I can certainly be addictive.

Well, I am completely bummed out.  We are separated by 1 vote from shooting them on the spot !!!   Oh, well........

I see truckers talking on cells while driving and shifting. I don't think a stinkin 5 speed will slow a teenager down. Here in Washington it is illegal to use a cell and drive....ya right. That doesn't seem to slow things down one bit. So how many of you have used your cell and then looked up to see you have slowed down a lot? If you answered yes, know that there is a real problem with safely driving. If you were unaware of losing speed, how much more have you missed?

Totsie, they do that just to hear ya yell, i would txt you all the time just for spite,
I can txt and drive at the same time, if all those other people out there on the road would practice offencife and defenceive driving they would be watching me and know what i was doing and stay out of my way.

Well, I dont want to shoot them...cause my son is one of those people that text ALL of the time...He drives me and his wife crazy...even just sitting around the house...I jumped all over his azz not long ago...we were in my truck (had his 5yr old with us) we sat at a stop sign for about 2 minutes...cause he was texting...he is getting better...

It is illegal to talk on cell phone here while driving...dont know about texting. I still see people ALL of the time driving with a phone to their ear....havent heard of cops enforcing this law...

I hate texting too..I tell my friends and family...PLEASE just call me...but some still text me everyday....

Well, my daughter CAN'T text and drive, or talk and drive, for that matter. She drives a 5-speed on the floor!!! Maybe everyone should just get rid of thier automatic transmission cars and that would end the problem...

I really didn't think our state was that advanced, however; texting was a driving offence and illegal (driving citation) almost 18  mos ago,  and 6 mos. later the ban of talking on your cellular phone was illegal and a driving citation.  After a year  we really don't see many people on their phones while driving......  and texting  legal or not while driving, is completely irresponsible.

I guess it is true what they say: common sense really isn't all that common, is it?

I think cell phone use should be outlawed when your driving! Even the ones you dont have to hold while driving. My daughter does this and it drives me crazy! I also think they should be banned in restaurants!

Not sure, Deb?.....I know they want to make it illegal, but not sure if it is official yet?...I hope so.  I refuse to use a bluetooth so I am guilty of still breaking the law and talking on the cell while driving.  Not conversations, but I will answer and keep it short.  It is a nasty fine, and very distracting.  I can't figure out how people do it.  I can barely walk and chew gum as it is........

I agree with you eagee!  Under 18?........The older we get, the harder it is....really stupid, just like here in cali.  You can't talk but you can text?........Arnold Swartz needs to pull his head out.  grrrrrrrrrr  I best shut up now.

I do actually agree with you.  I think doing anything that takes your eyes off of the road is dangerous.  It only takes one second for something to happen and a lot of regret to incur!

I thought texting became illegal in CA this year!!!  I am glad.  I have seen some stupid people doing stupid things behind the wheel.  And I, on occasion, have been one of them.  The older I get, the more important I see the need to really pay attention while driving.

Thats all!  hehehe

And I figured that I would have to apologize for being such a war monger and saying "just shoot them..." - -   time for everyone to lock and load.............

And I feel like Homer Simpson here - but in Indiana it became illegal to text and drive if you are under the age of 18. If its dangerous for one group of drivers, I feel that its dangerous to all groups of drivers. To me it is a no - brainer that you cant fully concentrate on these two tasks that require a brain at once.

I hate cell phones to begin with...absolutely hate them...that said...I have 2, one for work and one for personal use.  I hate texting 1)I'm a slow texter, b) it's an intrusion like IM c)
why the heck can't whoever is texting just call?  Everywhere we go my wife has her phone with her and it texting here and there ...beep, beep, beep....and I wanna grab the phone and throw it out the window...she's in the kitchen now texting her life away...

I say, shoot the jerks.

LOL........I have to agree with shoot them....:-))~~I also agree, Mary.  I don't text.  I can see how it can be addicting.  That's why I don't do it.  The only good thing I see in texting is telling someone off when your too piszed off to do a face-to-face.......lol

LMAO 50% say shoot em. lol    I don't get the whole texting thing anyways. It's just soooo much easier to talk into a phone. Seems like it's a step backward.......like going back to Telagrams.
