The Economy.. Yeah Right

The Economy.. Yeah Right

Just taking a minute to vent here.  While I have NO DOUBT the economy is bad.  Jobs are down.  People are struggling

Can I just say that it INFURIATES me that certain industries are not being effected at all, yet still use "The Economy is Bad" as a f*ing excuse to **** over employees.

I make a good salary.  I am not a lawyer.  I work for them.  Ive not been to college, I got very lucky.  I make as close to 6 figures as someone can with just a high school diploma.  I make the bulk of my money in overtime.  We work a 7 hour day=35 hour work week.  Anything after 35 hours is time and a half.  YAY.  Well starting Jan 1st they pushed it to 40 hours.  So now we still only work a 7 hour day, but your first 5 hours of OT is straight pay.  At the same time they limited the amount of OT you can do to 5 hours a week - thereby F-U*ing every staff member complteley.

I started working here about 5 years ago and am currently making 500 LESS per paycheck than I was when I started.  WTF!

I work at a top tier law firm in NY.  Each year, the raises and bonuses get less "sorry it's the economy."   Overtime gets cut "sorry it's the economy."  The price of health and dental insurance goes UP UP UP "sorry, it's the economy."

I say BULL SHI*T.

I work for the second highest partner in a firm with over 2000 attorneys.  I SEE the G'DAM firm receivables and yearly budget and profit reports.  Hell, I help put them together.

EACH YEAR this place does better than the previous year.  They have not been hit ONE SINGLE PENNY from the recession, in fact their profit has risen considerably more over the past few years than ever before.

They keep getting richer off the backs of their staff.  Its such BS.  I really felt that this company had integrity.  And stayed here so long because of how I initially felt about how they treated staff.  Not no more.  They have jumped on the "the economy is bad, so we all suffer together" lie that a lot of other companies use.  Its just not worth it. Im killing myself to be here - I leave in the dark and return home in the dark.  I miss time with family. Friends. My son...  working overtime which is now being paid as straight time and they keep nickle and diming everyone... and I get it a LOT less than most of the other staff around here.. And they KNOW that jobs are down and people cant leave.. its disgusting.

Is there no one on Miami Beach that would hire me to crack open coconuts all day??? Cause Im through with Corporate America.

AHHH.. Venting is nice..

Yep.......and the rich get richer.  I have a friends going through the same thing. They both work for a large sanitation company, I won't mention names (Waste Management)lol.  They are now making so much less money that they might lose their house.  It's just not right to be making less than you did 5 years ago.  Grrrrrrrrr

Sorry don't have any coconut cracking jobs here. If we did I would be the first to apply. lol

I was once told by a wise old man we are all w h o r e s. Some of us just get paid more than others for getting f'ed. It is true, all of my adult life I have been working hard and getting more education to make myself more "sellable" than the other guy.

I worked for a small company, started as a coop student while in high school vocational school, the President said he was greatful for all of us that worked so hard to make "our" company successful. 12 1/2 years later right after I made the biggest investment of my life, we built a home, I was laid off becaus ethe Gov't contract I was on ended. I had a new job before my last day at the old one just because I was "sellable" but relized at that time the loyalty is measured only until the next paycheck.

Getting a degree does help alot if it is in something that someone wants. I could go on but this was your vent.

Just wanted to add that for the first time in 30 years at my job... I did NOT get a raise this year.... I still put in 110% and have been called the Ambassador of my unit....but "because of the economy" they couldn't give me a performance raise... Oh well... I will still go to work,,,, and do my job with 110% attitude and hope that next year is better....Just my thoughts    and may all of you out there who still have jobs... hang on to them.. and for those that don't have jobs... my thoughts and prayers are with you....

Lots of Love, Hope and Prayers to all!

Oh, I feel ya!  On a much smaller scale though as far as law firms go.  I have worked for an attorney for the last 15 years and it's just him and I.  He has been an attorney for almost 35 years now so he has a pretty good clientele built up.  Doesn't advertise, no overhead and for the second year in a row I've heard about how supposedly "I make much more than he does".  HUH???  B U L L S H I T!  He too, is using the economy as an excuse, but it has not affected his business, if anything, it has made us busier than ever!  This is the first year I did not get a raise, no Christmas bonus, no profit sharing!  Since I am the only one who works for him, I do all the payables and receivables and I SEE what we have coming in and going out!  Ohhh, I could go on and on!
Coconut cracking - lol -  I love it!
