Glad that you are doing well NorcoQueen - -  but I am afraid that Lynard Skynard sang ""oh that smell....the smell of death around you.." - - - and I believe that he was speaking about people that he could tell were killing themselves through drug abuse.......the detox smell is more metallic and almost a smell of success at your effort; the smell of death you will never mistake if you experience it. I hope that the rest of you never have to experience it.........

you are 100% right...I once went out of town for a week when I was living in Nashville Tn, When I came home I could smell a very odd smell as i was walking up the stairs, before i even opened the door I knew something was wrong and I was right, my cousin was living with me and had died from a benzo OD prob the day i left because he had surely been died for sometime, and that smell is something that you only know if you smelled it

Oh gosh (((((((Lee)))))))). What a horrible thing to have in your memory.

Do we all realize that the olfactory sense is probably the most powerful of all senses when it comes to evoking memory?

I'm surprised that in detox nobody told me that smelling something wierd was typical in acute withdrawl (withdrawal). I was extremely sensitive to odors for a long time. I can't remember the smell in detox now, but I'm sure if I smell it again I'll know it!

Talk about olfactory triggers!!  A dink got the drop on me in a concrete block Catholic Church and tried to insert bayonet/knife through my throat.... I am here. He was unsuccessful.......but we went hand to hand over it all.  He had the oddest tobacco smell - probably Park Lane Cigs and beetle nut mixed........    But its been 40 years - - and I have done pretty well with some other PTSD areas - - - - - but when I perceive that peculiar tobacco smell I instantly and unconsciously jump straight to fight or flight response.  And the real kicker is that you are fighting yourself - - the wars been over a long time. But some things dont ever seem to leave you alone...............Its a very hard one to explain.

It's funny how CERTAIN SMELLS can trigger something that takes you back.. sometimes YEARS!

And depending on what the experience was (good or bad) how we REACT to it,,,,
