What does nubain have to do with body building?......
Information for Patients
Patients should be advised of the following information:
- Nubain is associated with sedation and may impair mental and physical abilities required for the performance of potentially dangerous tasks such as driving a car or operating machinery.
- Nubain is to be used as prescribed by a physician. Dose or frequency should not be increased without first consulting with a physician since Nubain may cause psychological or physical dependence.
- The use of Nubain with other opioids can cause signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
- Abrupt discontinuation of Nubain after prolonged usage may cause signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
hey jess, good for you and thanks for the update...success stories are always welcome..
bodybuilders use this drug to work-out through the pain its very highly abused by bodybuilders. nubain is not scheduled so its very easy to get and it is said that it has a low abuse potential.
just a quick follow up to say that i kicked the nubain and i did it cold turkey at home. yes the withdrawals were hell and i was pretty much non functioning but after 4 days i felt better and i kept feeling better so it can be done you just have to set your mind to it get rid of any and all reminders and become best friends with your bed and the bathtub.
just curious why a bodybuilder would use this drug..steriods,growth hormone even insulin i have heard of..but why Nubain..how would this benefit them ?...just curious..

I was addicted to Nubain for 8years non-stop, and so was my best friend. Like you I was afraid to quit as well. I tried several times. IMHO cold turkey is not the way, as you will be non-functional with cramps, flu like symptoms, general body aches and worst of all the craving for another fix. I could go on about the really bad withdrawals from Nubain.
Luckily, my friend had gone on and off over those 8yrs. He used Ultrams (Tramadol and there is another generic name I can't recall right now) to kick the withdrawals. I eventually tried it myself and after cutting doses for a few months and going down to nearly nothing(30-50 units a day), I tried the Ultrams, which gave no buzz but took the physical withdrawals away making it much easier to quit. Now It has been over 2yrs that I have been sober.
I do not recommend taking any drugs, I am simply posting my experince to help others. Also, note I never saw a doctor and never went to treatment, as I was to embarrassed and felt I could not afford it.
I know very well about this drug, but didn't know about the body builder part. I used to go to the ER for shots for migraines, and times I said I had migraines, and got Nubain with something else, quite a bit. Liked it too. Please don't be too hard on yourself, because I felt the same way. I would either get that shot, or Stadol, which I was definitly addicted to, but made me mean as heck. Get help from the others here, they're a great group of people, and have helped me a lot, even though with a car accident, losing my job, my dad being in the hospital for over 6 weeks, and my mom trying to kill herself with pain pills, I'm not doing so special myself. But, hang in there, things can and will improve!!! I guess I am not an inspiration but I don't go to the ER anymore. Good luck, and if you need a friend to write to, please do!
Perhaps time on a drug and amount does determine the wds. I have had flus that are much worse than even my wds from heroin.
For me that isnt the hardest part. It is staying off it when I get bored or lonely or dont want to feel. How self-centered is that? I guess thats why they say self-centeredness is at the core of our addiction. Also, that is why so many who are successful at remaining out of active addiction just about always have some type of therapy and/or program to help them stay that way.
So many people compare withdrawal to symptoms of the flu. I have had many cases of the flu in my lifetime, but NEVER experienced any symptoms that compared with those of withdrawal. I suppose we just don't know what to compare it to and the flu is our best choice. If it was only a matter of feeling like I had the flu, I would have been off these pills years ago. I can have a panic attack just at the thought of running out of my meds early.
Hi Jess,
Please know you are not alone. You can stop this madness. You haven't been on the nubain very long, but you can probably expect some of the above symptoms of withdrawal. Please see GA Guys' profile in which he outlines this in detail. Stay with us, let us know how it's going. You have not gone as far into the hole as some, you can do this!

Hello Jess,
Im not familiar with nubain but it looks like some of our wonderful friends here have done some research......................you have come to the right place and we can relate to that feeling of desperation when we feel we are losing ourselves.
If the withdrawals are like those of opiates you will have flu like symptoms for a week or so. I would think that drinking as much water as possible would help you, as well as soaks in a hot bath.
Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. Are you planning on going cold turkey or are you tapering down?
You are a good mama for reaching out like this...............

Withdrawal
Similar to other opiates.
Abdominal cramps, anxiety, nausea and vomiting, crying, restlessness, irritability and "flu like" symptoms.
Long-term use
Considered to have low abuse potential, but physical, psychological dependence and tolerance may develop following long-term or misuse or abuse.
hi jess...
from everything that i have read...the withdrawals from this are pretty much the same as what most ppl here have gone through or are going through. so you, my dear, have come to an awesome place. i would advise you to read some of the posts when you have time and see what you can expect. nothing about the withdrawals is easy...but...it is definitely something that can be done...kind of like having the flu for a week or so. these wonderful and supportive ppl will help you in anyway they can. if you have questions...please feel free to ask.
your life is not over...you are so worth the fight. getting yourself off this drug will not only help you...but will have the ripple effect...your children will benefit from this too.
i hope you will stick around...and only positive thoughts from this day on. you can do this.
