ibogaine again

by cognitive_dissonance, Nov 03, 2009 05:32PM
Hi all,
I'm just checking in to see if there's been activity in the ibogaine treatment area. Seems like threads start up, ibogaine is brought up and the discussions fade away. I have been doing research elsewhere but I still would like to hear from anyone on this site. I have a lot of respect for the honesty and experience of the people here. So.........what'd'ya say any information or anecdotal observations out there.

I need to keep this short but will check in again later.

Ibogaine therapy uses the root of an african plant that has psychoactive properties, like LSD. The thing is after the Ibogaine therapy this seems to reset opiate receptors in your brain. The interesting thing is it takes only a few days and patients report no w/d and no desire to use opiates again. It's not 100% effective but close, like 80 or 90%.

It's illegal in the states but Canada, Mexico and most of Europe have legal clinics.

A couple of drawbacks, kinda expensive and some vomiting. I guess it tastes really nasty.

I have a good friend from works whose brother was heavily addicted to heroin and went to an Ibogaine clinic in Mexico.  He swears by it and said that it worked exceptionally well and he has been clean ever since.  He appearantly was so impressed with the success of ibogaine that he moved to Mexico and is working for the clinic.  I don't recall the website for the clinic, but I will get the information and share it.  When I was taking suboxone, my doctor mentioned some promising research on ibogaine, but did say that it was only available in the US under extreme tight research guidelines.  It sounds interesting - appearantly it will completely break the addiction at the brain level and eliminate cravings after the withdrawal.

It really does sound interesting. It almost sounds to good to be true.

I'm doing a methadone taper now and it's going pretty well but hearing the potential to have a clean slate just sounds awesome. I'm encouraged to hear stories like your brothers and hope to hear from others that have tried it.

Congratulations to your brother and please send contact info if you can.

Be well,

It is incredibly interesting and extremely promising. But I think the politics behind it in the US keep it from being approved. (The big Pharmaceutical Companies will not pay the expense, which is huge, for clinical trials because I believe the patent has run out and therefore  there is not enough money to be made in producing it for US use.). Of course it is about money.

The same situation follows many new drugs around. No money, no testing.

This sounds so very scarey to me.   I have a heart murmer as alot of people do, and I would hope to have a nurse and a crashcart ready if I ever did this.   It would be wonderful to not have a desire or even the withdrawl symptoms.    You know what really bothers me is I don't know if I can face my demons,  the youth part,  I have gone many years not thinking abt. my formative years and don't really want to have it all, even the parts I have forgotten, brought forward.   Perhaps it wouldn't be as bad as I think,  just rather sad, some parts of it.   Turned out to be a good daughter, wife, mother, ect. but talking with this"man" might be good for me spiritualy.   don't know.    Interesting subject, would like to talk with someone who has been through it.

Hi,
Have you found anybody that has been through the treatment and willing to share their experience with you? I'm really interested. If you have any news please let me know what you've heard.

Thanks,
cd
