is this the only way

i'm  not take any more morhine after today. I have been taking morhine now for about 6 months. The doctor told me I might have mild side affects and he is going to give me Loratab instead of Morphine. I told this doctor I no longer want to be seen by his office because I didn't feel what he was doing to me was safe.I no there are many people alot worse then me. But I'm still very scared! Anyone with some advice?

Hi BonnieAnn,
I hear you- i took suboxone too for serious addiction to Norco for years. I did a hospital detox and they gave me 3 days taper then nothing and released me. I was out of my mind and still very sick. I found a doctor on NAABT.org and he charged me 300.00 for a consultation then gave me a prescription for SUBOXONE that lasted 7 days. I took my last one and felt great for about 2 days then started to get really sick again. The cravings for the vicodin were too strong i couldn't not call for a refill it was too easy. Now i am back on and really bummed out. I am sure that the only way to do it is to go back on the Suboxone again but i am sure i will need to be on it for longer than 7 days. Not a year but atleast 2-3 months so that i can get back into my life without the Hydros. Start practicing the principles of a 12 step program. It is the only way for me to relieve the underlying causes. I don't want to go back to AA. I think i need to find a program for pill addicts like me where i can relate and find out what they do to make their life more managable. I just feel so unmotivated and tired without the Norco. I can't hold it together emotionally and take care of all of my responsibilities. I am a mother of 2 babies 1 and 2 years old and also work full time and am the breadwinner for my family. How can i even take time out to recover? It doesn't seem possible. So i can't give you any advice because i am not free- but also i started taking TRAMADOL for the pain in my back. I have 2 herniated discs and really bad sciatica (which started this whole business). I can actually stop taking the Norco if i run out and take Tramadol and NOT GET SICK! I SWEAR! but if I stop taking the Tramadol i get sick....it's a vicious cycle and i feel like a junkie. But i function and NOBODY KNOWS! Not even my husband.
So hang in there if you have gotten of the suboxene okay...maybe you should just stay off. But if you have to choose between that and going back on the Hydros...it sucks to be in that place again. The thing is that you pick up where you leave off. It takes the same amount to work, but you must be careful this is how people OD.  If you can afford it and the doc will prescribe it... don't beat yourself up over taking it. It is better than the alternative which we know what is down that path.
Take care and keep me posted. I may not be the best advice, but i have been there.

Hi hun!

OK. I will share with you my experience with Suboxone. There are a lot of ppl here that can share their experiences also, but today is a work day so you will get more help, advice, suggestions over the weekend. You may want a post a new thread in the morning. Just KEEP POSTING and stick around. You will get thru this.

Anyway, I took pain meds for 9 years for "legitimate" pain. I had an accident and injured my back. I had reconstruction surgery, all sorts of therapy, accupuncture, epidure injections, steroid injections. Nothing helped for the long term. I turned to the pain meds. At first they worked. Then I built up a tolerance, and I needed more. By the end, I had several doctors, several scripts and I was buying them off the street. I just recently admitted out loud, that I was also snorting oxy's. I knew I was in trouble, and like you, I wanted the roller coaster to stop. So, I did research on Suboxone.

I wnet to: www.naabt.org to find a doctor. Several e-mailed me and after speaking with them, I chose one. It cost me $250 for the first visit. It cost me $67.00 for the frist two weeks of meds.I had to go there in withdrawal. They suggest that you are at least, the very least 12 hours into w/d when you go. Then the doc checked me out, gave me a script for the Sub and I went to the drugstore and had it filled. I went back to the doc's office and I had to take the first dose in front of him. He checked my blood pressure all along. I was there for hours.  He would not allow me to leave until he was sure that I did not have a reaction to it. He gave me two weeks worth and I left. I asked here on this forum for advise and I was given some VERY good advise from others who were familiar with it. On day 3 I started to wean off of it. Today was my last dose and I strted on 8/22/07. That is the best way to do it. Get on and get off. Remember, Sub is an opiate and it is addictive. What it did do for me was to take away all the w/d's I would have had from the pain meds. Now that I have gotten off of the Sub so quickly, I will probably have two days of being mildly uncomfortable and then it will be over. The physical part anyway.

I realize it is an expensive program, but it does work if used properly. My doc told me I would be on for a year. I say "NO WAY". In a year, I would be addicted and that is not why I started Sub in the first place. I did not want to replace one addiction with another.

Do you think you can afford it? If so, do you think this is something for you?

Please post and let us know how you are doing.

Hugs, Bonnie

Hey there... was reading the posts and thought I'd lend a helping hand.  I've had many friends in very similiar situations... for the morphine addicition that is.  Defintely look into the suboxone...

If you're in the same situation my friend(s) were in, is that they were using morphine (not prescribed) and after realizing they were hooked and tried to stop they realized they had no place to turn for help.  One of my friends went to the suboxone and that worked miracles for him.  There is still a small period of where when you cut everything where you go through a small withdrawl period, but it wasn't nearly as bad.

I'll be on here most of the day, so feel free to shoot me a message if you want.  Just remember, the body is an amazing thing and if you stop the opiates your body WILL get better... you just have to keep going.  :)

I can talk to you about Suboxone some more. I feel so bad though, I have to go soon. Will you be around tonight, or tomorrow? In the meantime, go to "www.suoxone.com". That will give you some basic information. I will share more with you because today I took my last dose.

I feel for you having to care for the children right now. That has to be so tough on you. Please hang in there.

At least you took a smaller dose today than usual, so that is a start. If you can, try not to take any more today. I know it is hard.

Hang in there and God Bless, Bonnie

No, I know nothing about Suboxone.  I took a dose of 15 mg. at 10:00 am. I want to do this the safest way possible. I have three kids I care for daily. Their dad is gone about 15 hours a day. I also have a special needs child that is Autisic. My house is turned up-side down right now because I can barly get off the couch. It is very painful just to stand up. I am ok if I sit but only in 20 miiute intevals. I  thank you for helping me!

Where did you go hun?

OK. I am glad the pharmacist talked to you and explained that much anyway. I don't know that the Lor's are worse on your body than the Morphine, they are both detrimental.

So, you took a dose of the morphine today, right? How high of a dose did you take?
You have a decision to make here. You can wean off the morphine with Lortabs, but that is dangerous in many ways. You could go into a short-term detox program. You could go into a 30 day rehab program. You could go cold turkey, but depending on how much you have been taking, and for how long, that could be very dangerous. You could go on Suboxone. Do you know anything about Suboxone? I could help you some with that choice, if you decide to go that way.

Let me know what you are thinking.

I have not started the Loratabs yet. Yes I'm very aware that Loratabs are very bad for you. This is what scares me. I asked my pharmasis and she said that Loratbs are worse on your body than Morphine. I,m on my own since I told the doctor to go to hell. I only have means of the emergecy room if it gets too bad.

Hello again. Thank you for your post.

I am glad to see that you realize what the drugs are doing to you and you are seeking help.

Are you aware the Lortab is also a narcotic and addictive? It can also destroy your liver over time. How much of that are you now taking?

You have every right to be scared. This is a hard time for you. There are good people here who will give you advise on how to taper off the meds and what to take for the withdrawals. First off, sorry to ask again, but what is the dose of Lor's that you are now taking? How often do you take them? Let's start there.

Please post back, and when you do, you can post right here in this thread. Sort of like you are answering, know what I mean. You don't have to post a new question to answer. Just go down the bottom where it says "To:, and then "Your comment". That way we will keep this one going and no one will get confused.

Hugs to you and you keep talking!
