Do not go cold turkey. Your dr should have explained to you that going cold turkey is more harmful to the baby then tapering off. The baby will feel the w/d and might not be able to handle them. You must taper off.
Okay - here's the fun part where you come in and GET YOUR DOCs to talk to each other and DEVISE a plan for you to taper off the medication. This is part of their responsibilities to you - you being the patient. If your OB/GYN gave you a 'junkie' look and you can 'shop around' for someone you like better - then dump her. You don't need someone that is going to be disrespectful towards you during your withdrawal plan OR your pregnancy. No one deserves that.
As for a tapering program - mine started with 10-12 Vicodins a day sometime in June when work was getting crazy and I had a crabby 'lead' take on the project (this person shouldn't be in management). Anyway, I let her get the best of me and started using my prescription up - and then requesting a refill too soon (sound familiar) and wahlah - I'm addicted. So, I started a tapering program 8 days ago and am now down to 2 tablets to day (1.5 tomorrow if all goes well). The thing is - I'm not pregnant - so, if you can't get your docs to give you a tapering plan then you may have to start your own and basically 'punt' (best guess would be to low dose as much as possible and see how your withdrawal goes and then make the best decision from there) or go cold turkey. Make sense?
Go to the other forum . I wrote my story that I think will help.
what kind of tamper program are you on.
The obgyn said stop my family doc orpedic said tamper of The obgyn wouldnt even talk about it she looked at me like i was a junkie n i am not.
First - I assume you have an Ob/GYN? Can you see an OB/GYN as soon as possible and explain the situation to them? This is not something 'new' for them - and ideally, they will have the best resources for you to utilize (genetic counseling, etc). Talk to them about a tapering program (which is working for me). My concern was 'relapse' - thus, the research I did showed that tapering was the best thing for my addiction 'type'. The other method is cold turkey - which I've found less success with.
Second - I have a background in genetics and whenever I see a 'new' drug come up on the market, I check out whether it is a tetragen (drugs that create birth defects). There is a website you can look into called: ObGyn.net - check it out for a paper on percocet and pregnancy.
Third - Another post stated that some of the best medicine (cold & flu) will help with the immediate withdrawal symptoms (i.e., anxiety, aches, pains, sweats, etc). Your symptoms will dissipate (or at least mine have and I'm having alot of success) as you taper down your dosage. Another post from a woman recently diagnosed with pregnancy was told that her hormones would kick in and substitute europhia for the depression that accompanies anyone going through withdrawal. So...your baby may, in fact, be 'helping' you get through this...
Talk to your OBGYN as soon as possible and please - get on a tapering program.
Last, but not least, Congrat's!!!
