So i just got off work after a 12 hr shift @ the hospital & one RN just kept complaining about her patient being on the call light for there drugs. This kind of ticked me off being a addict & all ( they have no clue) So after listening to her & a few others complain about always having drug seekers I proceeded to tell her how it could one day be her & how maybe this one patients DR over prescribed & how she has ZERO clue to this persons life & how she really needs to still treat her patient with respect cause she has NO clue what is going on with him or her!!! Boy did she change her tune then!! Sorry guys just had to share cause now days in the medical field even addicts r getting treated like crap because of the epidemic with opiates & all & i still feel like no one has a right to judge! They don't know that person's story! I do believe they would be so shocked to know that i'am one, many people would! So to act like addicts r scum of the earth ticks me off!! Sorry for the rant, must sleep for another 12 hr shift starting tomorrow. Love & Prayers to all!! Stacy

Way to go Stacy.  That just brought a smile to my face.  It's so true, noone knows anyone else's story.  I can remember being in the hospital and seeing patients getting treated like crap. There are some awesome nurses but some really mean ones too.  When you are so vulnerable a little bit of compassion can mean so much.  So proud of you.

I am glad to.see this rant lol. I remember when I went.to.er due to knee replacement issues. I had a blood clot. And when I.was in with the triage nurse and gave him my list of meds. One being oxycontin 40. His attitude changed. Lectured me. And put me on the back burner. I told him I didnt want anything for pain. I just took a pill two hrs prior. And cant move my knee. But if I.sit still. And in one position I am fine. The great young intern on.duty that night said I was extremely swollen. And yes we xrayed. Then all he did was told me to.call my ortho in the morning. I did. Well. My ortho did an ultrasound. Found the clot thank God it was under the knee cap. Due to other issues. When I told him how I was treated in er. Well.....he being the head ortho at.that hospital became extremely upset. What if that clot would have moved into my lungs??

He told me to.call him. If I am ever going to.er again. He will meet me there or at least know I am there. I never go to.er. Ever. ok. Ive been four times in ten years. Does that sound like drug seeking?? I dont think so.

If I.want.to.seek. I have other avenues than er. Lol.

Now you have me on my soap box.....hahaha

Its too much work to.seek pain pills thru the medical community. I.can make a couple of.calls and get what I want without killing a day at doc or.er. Lol.

When I had my replacement. The pain was thru the roof. I.had a hard time with pain. And bugged my nurses constantly. Two.were so.good.to me I sent a card and a little gift.card.to.wal mart. Cause I always needed help thru the times my husband wasnt with me.

One night I was on my own with nurse.ratchett. Who.didnt.care and was fustrated with me. I needed help. Scared. And pain was awful. She would make me wait forever between doses. I fixed the issue myself. I had a stash lol.

I understand all nurses are not the same. Yall work hard and are under staffed. But some are just mean. I can say 99% I have encountered are awsome. I having a high tolerance and all have always needed more meds than others. And my addiction didnt help. And surgery is such.an assult on my body I.go.hyperdrive in pain. When I had a pump I.could push.for.daladiud every five minutes but didnt. That should have said something. When I took my oxy I.was.cool. When I poped the pain pump in day two. I didnt ask nor want that thing. I just couldnt move. And needed help.

Yes I contributed to my addiction. But I.also had a lot of help by doctors giving into me. Well just pumping me with meds. Its a two.fold issue.

Such a great post Stacy! This is exactly how I felt going to the Pharmacy for the first time with a prescription for Oxycodone! This was before I became dependent on them, and honestly, I did not have a ripping clue what they were! OMG, the pharmacy girl treated me like cr*p! I left in tears after getting a severe lecture in front of other customers! I should have known then, what I was in for! You go girl! You rock!

Good post!  I am dealing with having to change doctors as mine has retired.  When I began the process to find a new doctor..I called one office that was on my doctor's list and had also been recommended by others friends.  I was trying to see if they had room for my hubby and I.  The clerk that I spoke with insisted that I tell her what meds we were on.  I gave her the list (not the hydro as I am not taking any and have been clean over 3 months and do not intend to fall into that trap again).  After I gave the list, I was asked if there were any narcotics.  I said No.  We talked a bit more and then I asked why the question about the norco.  She stated that they doctors at this practice do not prescribe and will refer to a pain clinic.

Now, I am worried.  Will I be tagged because I have had these pills and how will I be treated.  Makes me uncomfortable to say the least.

I've seen with my own eye's the Nurse Rachet's & let me tell u I was witness to a RN only giving a cancer pt 1 tab when she could of had 2, but her pain wasn't high enough on the darn # scale (it was a 4) so in 2 hrs when the lady was in tears in pain the nurse said she could have tylenol when i knew darn good & well the DR ordered her 2 pill every 4. My point being after hearing the RN talk about the pt to others , the RN was just being mean & rude!!! Thats total BS to me & would NEVER disrespect anyone who is on there death bed like that!! Sorry i just see way to much in the medical field. Not to mention the past 12 hrs i just got off of was horrible as all get out!! Love & prays to all. Stacy
