prayer request for my daughter Ciara

Hi everyone...i am at the hospital w/ my daughter Ciara, she has been really sick the past couple of days ,not sure yet what is going on. Sunday she had some strange things going on. Her face was very red ,swollen and her skin was burning...she had used my face stuff so I thought that she had a reaction to it. Anyway,we were out visiting friends and later in the evening it went away, well,yesterday she woke up w/ a fever really  sore throat. I have 6 kids so i don't normally run right to the dr.s  I waited to see ...and did all the normal things one would do for a sick kid. Well,this morning she woke up and was much sicker...I don't have a car during the day so I figured I would take her to the after hours pediatric clinic,which i did.   During the day her hands started swelling and they were bright red and itching so bad. The Dr. thinks she is having an allergic reaction of some kind on top of her being sick.....they gave her Benadryl and a steroid med.About an hour after,her face turned all red again and it was all down her neck and arms...even the inside of her ears were swelling, so,they admitted her to watch because they are worried about her throat swelling up more etc...they are thinking maybe this is from a spider bite and it just so happens that she has a cold too..ughhhh
This pediatric unit is so cool though,,[she can't stop playing around w/all the bed buttons..LOL they have these cool little interactive flat screen t.v's w/internet.man have hospitals come a long way..lol BUT it has taken me 40 min. to write this..lol..
I will let you all know how she is doing tomarrow. I am worried and hope it's nothing serious. Thankyou in advance for your prayers/good wishes...etc..

wow the dr. thinks its viral?? ive heard of viruses causing rashes but never severe swelling, especially of the throat/ airway. THat just doesnt seem right to me. Im no doctor of course, not even close, but my gut just tells me its something else.......damn...

something just came to me.....another mom i know, her daughter had this years ago.....called Kawasaki disease. Maybe thats what is ringing a bell with me on this...have they mentioned that as a possibility? I dont want to scare you or anything but I know that patients, and parents of patients have to become their own advocates. The medical field (IMO), doesnt have the time to dwell on every case in order to figure things out sometimes. anyways,

Hopefully its not that. But I remember this lady saying she believed the onset of this was due to exposure to carpet shampoo or something similar (the flea soap thing you mention got me wondering)

well the Dr. seems to think it's viral..they have been sseing this with kids with the sore throats and they are getting these hives/rash swelling stuff..If it's not better by Tues. then it's off to the allergist...ughhhh

Hi my friends..well today is the 7th day of this ..she has been covered with this rash/hive thing for the past 2 days now..it goes for a few and then comes right back but now it's seeming to cover her..stomach,face,arms,legs..this is buggin the heck out of me..I have an appointment today at 10:30 for her..the only thing that I thought of today was that she helped her dad wash the dog with flea and tick shampoo sometime during the weekend..we don't have any other animals..and she hasn't been around anyone elses..I have thought about mosquitos's?? and everything else..I have been giving her the max dose of benadryl since she came home from the hospital and she has one dose left of the steroid Prednisone..I hate pumping my kid full of medicine..but at least she isn't swelling up still..none of us are allergic to anything..well, I am allergic to penicillin..but thats it..no seasonal allergies or anything..I use "green' products to clean with..we have the same soaps, shampoo etc..this is crazy..her poor face is just horrible looking..it was just clear and now it's a mess again..I will keep you all posted..
thanks so much for all the suggestions..I am at a loss here. Hopefully the Dr. can figure something out. i have no experience with allergy tests or any of that..what do they do?? How do they test people???

Lisa how is she today? Im still thinking........something about this keeps ringing a vague bell with me.......some show i saw (maybe HOUSE?? lol)  was she near garden fertilizer or anything??

Thinking to myself here..Cat scratches? Cat boxes? Seems silly. You've looked for spider bites, but I was just thinking about a cousin that got 'cat scratch fever' not even Ted Nugent showed up ;) but he had to be hospitalized. Kind of the same symptoms...Like I said, just a thought...tossing it out there.

Hey there girl..thanks..Ciara is 11..I have tried to think of everything but she hasn't had anything different then normal..same soaps,same foods she hasn't gone anywhere in the past week. It's perplexing. i have been up all night with a flashlight checking on her..lol but the swelling thing scared the cr-p out of me. Her hands were HUGE..Sunday is when her face turned red..and I mean really red and her skin was burning..It looked like she had a sunburn. Last night the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet were bright red..it goes away after awhile but then she gets something else somewhere else. I had to wake her up an hour ago to give her some more benadryl because she has the red spots all over her face and arms again..she is also taking a steroid that she is supposed to take for 3 days. I don't get it..the Dr's thought maybe it was from a spider bite but she doesn't have any bites on her that I could find besides a mosquito bite..I am waiting for the Dr,s office to open. they want to see her today and it looks like they are going to need to send her to an allergy Dr. I am just glad she isn't swelling up...the other day when I took her to the hospital her throat was so swollen. They said it was good she was there..Thankyou for your prayers. I will keep you posted..

Lisa Im sorry to hear it keeps coming back. Do you have any clues what is causing it? Did she try any new food or product? exposed to anything strange? did she have any vaccines lately? (how old is she btw, I forget-- Im sorry)  Just trying to figure out what may be causing this. I will keep you guys in my prayers hon

hey everyone..well it doesn't look like this is over yet..I woke up with cirara having the same thing going on except for her hands are not swollen..thankfully,she has is taking prednisone and benyadryl but these hives/rash keeps comming back..just as i have been sitting here she is getting it again..but it goes away...it looks like we are going to have to see an allergy specialist..I just hope we don't have the sweeling thing again..thankyou guys/girls..I appreciate it all your good wishes and prayers..I'll keep you posted..Love Lisa

Wow, what a scare!  I'm just now reading this or else I would have posted earlier.  I can imagine how frightened you were.  We love our children so much!  But glad she's safe at home now.

Geeze, internet in the hospital rooms?  No one can get bored now, huh?  I don't think our hospitals here have that yet, but when they do it'll make it a lot easier to care for my mom for hours at a time.

Did you back track on everything thing she ate?  Do the doctors think it's a food allergy or another kind of allergy?  Keep me posted.

I neglected to enter a post regarding your daughter Clara. I must apologize for my seemingly disregard for you and her problem. I sincerely hope that all will be well with you both and that there will be no repeat of the problem. I am, as I have said before, not much of a praying man but my wishes are certainly with you both.

I'm sorry for all that you both have been going through.  I'm no doctor, but it sounds to me that the docs are spot on here...It sounds like an allergic reaction for sure.  

I hope she continues to improve, and that you both get some sleep!

Thankyou all so much. We are finally home and I am slap happy tired and heading to bed..but Ciara is doing much better. All the swelling in her hands and throat has gone down. I am so glad we were there ,the Dr. said she would have probably had her throat swell totally. She was also dehydrated,which i didn't know..that stuff happens so fast. The Dr.s are still thinking that she has had some sever allergic reaction to something but knowing for sure what, is another thing..Ciara did so good after getting poked 5 times and taking all the nasty medicine..etc..I think sometimes kids do better than us adults..lol..so we will keep our fingers crossed that whatever happened is done happening..thanks again...love Lisa
