12 days clean but???????????

today is 12 days clean no desire some cravings but my question is how long does the shortness of breath and heart palpations last? it only happens once in a while but the anxiety comes out of nowhere like I'll be watching t.v and bam is this normal my chest muscles get tight and then the anxiety starts thinking I'm gonna have a heart attack then the anxiety gets worse and I get short of breath what is going on overall I feel great except for that

Anxiety is totally normal as you are getting clean.  Its the easiest part I  would think.  Try not to smoke or drink caffeine.  And take deep breaths.  Do you find yourself thinking about meds then the anxiety begins?  try and find the pattern, like whats on your mind when your symptoms begin. Write them down. time them.  So you can keep track.  And if you find a pattern then maybe you can avoid that pattern and see if your anxiety comes to an ease.

CONGRATS on being CLEAN!!!!!!!!

I agree, anxiety is normal during this time and don't forget that using pain meds effects our respiratory system so it could be a combination of both.

Many addicts go on low dose antidepressants after getting clean and that may be an option for you. You should speak with your doctor.

That being said, if the chest tightness, or shortness of breathe continues please don't hesitate to get to the ER!!

shortness of breath probably lasts different for each person.  It may your bodys way of telling you there's a problem.  Not trying to scare you , but im no doctor either.  I did have some of your symptoms , but they were while i was intoxicated, maybe for a while afterwords.  Your body is telling you that it wants more, it is what its become accustomed to, and now thinks its normal to have the drugs.  If it gets any worse, i would defiantly see a doctor.  I really dont recommend anyone detox without being in a hospital , because my last was really bad.  My heart stopped , and if not for doctors being there, i would not be typing this right now.  Congrats on the 12 days.  Hang in there and take care.

Yes anxiety is a part of this but if this sort of thing persists get to the doctor.  Better to be safe than sorry.        be safe                 sara

I'm Happy to read you are feeling better.. and congratulations on day 13 :) I have never really had anxiety and never really understood it until I came off a 4 year norco run.. I would go to leave a post on a thread my heart would start pounding and I would get this fight or flight response going.. thank goodness for reading as I knew what I was experiencing.. I pushed through it and it would calm down. walking outside and just breathing helped tremendously.. if it does not pass quickly definitely go to the er as it is hard to distinguish between the 2. I now understand those with panic attacks a lil better. be kind to yourself.. lesa
