1st Meeting w/Sponsor Last night

1st Meeting w/Sponsor Last night

It went well. We have a lot in common, the opiate usage, growing up in So Cal, kids same age, etc...Its really nice to have a clean, sober WOMAN in my life for once. All my friends are male b/c sometimes its just hard to get along with other girls. I try and play nice buuuuuuttttt.....
She lives 1 minute from me so it works out well.
Ive got some "homework" for this week, step 1.
Ive never actually done the work before in my so called recovery (if thats what you wanna call my 2002 attempt) but am willing to now. So here I go again...

You go girl!!!!!

My sponsor was my life line for my five years in the rooms (back in the late 80's). She helped me work the steps and she was my friend. I had a lot of trust in her, I needed to trust someone very bad. I got a good one. I believe that she worked my recovery almost as hard as she worked her own.

Hang on to her and call her even when you don't want to.

Keep posting.

I love your post! I have a cute story for you, hope you'll get a laugh.

When I first went into the rooms, I was told to look for s sponsor, for someone whom I could identify and I felt had a good program. After listening to my sponsor a few times, I approaced her after a meeting one nite and asked if she would sponsor me. She said: "Are you willing to do whatever I ask, even if you don't like it?" I said yes.

I had a little over in a year clean when I thought that she really never did ask me to do anything I didn't like, so I forgot about her comment. She called me one nite and told me that I would be speaking at a woman's mazimum security prison the following eveing. I would be the main speaker, and sharing my story.

I almost fell thru my shoes! However, I went. I cannot tell you how freightened I was. All I kept hearing was iron bars closing me behind as we went further into the prison. I was shaking by the time we got to the gym. Then I spoke and I'll say for pretty sure that not one woman in the gym wanted to hear me, or my story. They were looking for an excuse to get out of their cells for an hour.

When we left and were walking to the car, my sponsor turned to me and said "so?". I told her that I was really scared. She replied "Good, that was my intention. Remember, if you go back out and IF you live, that is where you will be next".

I didn't laugh then, but I smile when I think of it today. She was the best, and I miss her.

Sounds like you got a good one too. It's great!

Is she not in your life anymore? Thats a funny yet scary story, public speaking in any form freaks me out.
