20 mg methadone "wall"

20 mg methadone "wall"

So as many know I have been tapering methadone for a year or so. Came down from 90 mg to now I'm at about 20. I say about because I actually am prescribed 30 mg a day because my clinic wont let me drop any lower so I break up the pills. Part of the problem is having more pills than I need so its hard not to take more each day. Anyways I have heard people talk about the 20 mg wall and I thought it would be no issue...but I CANT get lower than 20 mg. If I take 18 mg I have no energy and feel $#itty .what is this? Why was 25-20 no big deal but 20-18 is not doable?

I had the same thing, I was on 100mg daily for 3 years.  Then I tapered for 6 months down to 25mg got stuck for 3 months then finally had the courage to finish it. At 25mg I went down 2mg every 3 days. Once I was on 4mg for 2 days, I stopped taking methadone.

Start taking meds for sleep like serequel, clonidine when your jittery, etc...
Try to keep your sleeping pattern normal, you will sleep less but make sure to sleep 6 hours per night. Don't take naps if you can resist. I did it this way and I've been sleeping 6+ hours every night  through the taper and even after stopping the methadone. Once my methadone withdrawals are mostly gone it'll be alot easier for my body to sleep without any meds.

There's no way your clinic can force you to take a certain ammount, especially not MORE than what you want to take. If you have to you can complain to the authorities, but I'm sure the clinic will comply. Make sure you don't get more than you're taper allows. Having them around would make the withdrawals 10x worse. When I started tapering from 25mg I asked to pick up my dose daily. ***** going in every day but it really helped me. Now I never have to go again!
