ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY

3 months sober or less please read!!!!

I just wanted to create a post to tell everyone about what has worked for me since day 1 of my detox.  I am a long time opiate user that eventually made the leap to methadone.  I have been off now for 3-4 months and off all opiates for about 2 months.  I used some hydro's to lessen the methadone detox but am clean since then.

I cannot say enough about the use of the amino therapy suppliments on the health pages.  I have been taking a reginement of multivitamins, amino's, and now protien shakes that with the combination of exercise has helped dramatically.  Coming off of methadone is one of the toughest things out there to detox from.....Hydro's, Percs, Oxi's etc....are tough but is a lot less in intensity.  For you that are on day 2-6 you probably would not think that it gets any worse but it does if you make that leap to the dark side (methadone).

Ok....I started out taking almost all of the suppliments that is on the amino acid therapy page.  Exercise was difficult but I have an exercise bike at work and started riding it 5-10 minutes a day 2-3 days a week.  I would just force myself to get onto it.  After a short couple of times barely making it 7 minutes, it actually made me feel better.  I felt like I had just ran a marathon but I felt a lasting feeling of NORMAL for about 1-2 hours.  I finally worked myself up to biking the hill program for 37 minutes non-stop.  To many that are not going through detox this would be easy but for us junkies it is a big accomplishment.  I have been drinking my protien shakes (thanks gnarly) and taking my multivitamins and drinking lots of water.  I have been eating lean protien meats and watching my sugar and bad carbo intake.

If you are looking for a way to get yourself out of this misery faster this is the way.  I have done a lot of research on the affects of exercise and diet in regards to detox and there are some amazing results from a lot of different studies.  Now, working out is going to be the last thing you will be motivated to do but if you force yourself to get past the first 5-10 minutes you will even start feeling better while you are exercising.  You need to do at least 30-40 minutes of continuous exercise and weight lifting in combo even helps more.  I was having a rough time around the second month and fell into a rut but with the help of the aforementioned routine, I have some how snapped myself out of the funk and am feeling better each day.....I am also shedding the weight and can feel more energized all day.

Make sure if you are over the age of 35 you consult your doctor before starting and exercise routine but just a few push ups in the beginning will help....This will not be a miracle cure that will snap you out of detox over night but this will shorten the time ten fold and help you get through the PAW's effects!

This is just a small suggestion from a guy that has come a long way through a rough process and has found something that REALLY WORKS....If you would like some specifics about suppliments or exercise routines let me know....I was a nutrition minor in college and can give a few suggestions if you do not know how to start....Good luck and God bless!!!!
