365 days today & what I don't miss

A year off of oxycodone now and life is different. I start the morning now with a cup of coffee and don't miss having to wait for my morning pill to kick in before I feel "OK."  I plan my day and don't need to count pills for the day.  I trust my judgement a lot more now, as I am more level headed.
It is hot now where I live and I don't miss all the sweating the pills caused. More importantly, I really don't miss all the mistrust and dishonesty in my life from my pill addiction.  I spent my days trying to stay "just the right amount high" to quote one of my long time AA friends.
I don't miss all the hassles and wasted time I spent chasing that "feelin' great" buzz: waiting at pain management, standing in line at the pharmacy praying they had my pills in stock, rewarding myself after that with a few extra pills on the way home, hoping my wife wouldn't catch on, on and on...
In short, my pill habit could put clouds in any sunny day. There are challenges in everyone's life, and I really don't miss looking for the answers in a pill bottle.
There aren't any.

Oh, man, I needed to read that just now. Working hardcore in staying pill free but I'm new at that and right now not feeling very proud of myself OR very "excited" about sobriety. Yes, I guess I need to remind myself of EVERYTHING you just wrote that I don't have to do anymore. I will read it again.

Thank you all for the very kind comments! What Gnarly says is true. These days I am always on the lookout for what in AA is called 'Stinkin' Thinkin.' I agree, keeping sobriety requires work each day, one day at a time. The posts on this Forum by people with years of clean time that let their guard down truly frighten me.

Truly, a great post!  You should be very proud of yourself!  I hear ya on waiting in the a.m. to have that "surge" kick in so you can get going!  I'm so glad that part is gone (but sometimes, first thing in the morning, I can feel when I would have gone to my purse to get them)  kind of weird but, that's what happens?  You should take a bow!  Do something special for just "you" today!
