3rd day of taper

by co872, Oct 27, 2009 10:13PM
I figured I'd start a new post, since the one I had going was so long. I am on day three of a roxi 30mg dose taper. I have been sticking to it. I been eating banana's like crazy, I noticed that I had bad cravings today and i didnt eat my two banana's. Anyway I will eat them tomorrow and see if it helps. Also i had a serious day at work hanging 40 sheets of drywall. One last thing I cant stop thinking about though, I have been to 6 dr's in my life that prescribed me opiates,  tabs at first, then i progressed to 7 roxi 30's a day, never once did any of them tell me that these drugs affect my opiate receptors the way they do. Had that been done I can promise you i would not be in the situation I'm in now. All I knew was I felt like superman for the first 8 months, now i cant get outta bed with out atleast 45mg. I was at 120 mg to get going in the morning, and doing 15 to 20 pills in a day, thats 450 to 600 mg two months ago so i'm doing alot better, but it's a constant battle, thankfully i kept breathing the whole time.  Anyone out there that reads this dont keep ramping up please it's a road to destruction. I started calling into work when I ran outta pills caus I had no idea about withdrawls, and lost my job I had for 10 yrs, I hated the job but it's besides the point. We need better medical information from our dr's on the changes that opiates do to our brains, in a matter of months. NO EXCEPTIONS

I did a taper of just whatever I could handle and still function. I go down again on monday. Half a pill if i can, it gets harder the lower I get. I try and drop each week, I drop whatever i can 1/4 pill 1/2 pill a day for the week. I like to take 15's with the 30's when i cut my dose to fool my brain. Same amount of pills but not mg. It helps sometimes sometimes not. I'm really new to this, I just realized I am an addict and abuser, it only took less than a year. If i  can do 1/2 pill a week i'll be able to try and go clean in about 3 or 4 months. Thanks for the response!

Almost unbelieveable that a dr was prescribing u that high of a dose of oxy! If in fact adr was rx-ing u this highof a dose//he will eventually get investigated and lose his license

there r a few reasons why drs wil rx narcotics without alot of thought/but that is changing very quickly as drs now have to prove why they r prescribing them and have documented proof to kep them outta trouble..a dose of 600 mgs would definitely be a huge red flag unless u were terminally ill etc..and even then this dose would be questioned..number one reason why drs rx narcs without addiction teaching is that that addicts are in the minority...most people do not get addicted to narcotics or they would be off the market..only a person prone to addiction will build a tolence to take 600 mgs of oxy in one day..that would kill alot of people unless they r an addict with a tolerence..another ereason is that pwople who can read are expected to read the info given to them when they fill the scrip...it will clearly state they r addciting and most often u have to initial that u understand the consequences of the side effects of the drug before u leave the pharmacy

But many do not understand that this mental stuff will follow the physical stuff...i thought once i got thru the flu i had for 4 days i would be finished..being a nurse I was unaware of the mental aftermath...wished I woulda googles that part!

tapering can be hard for an addict...best of luck to u..most often an addict will need to hand over their pills to someone they trust to hold them and dole them out daily..the definition of an addict is loss of control over their DOC..so controlling a taper can be a huge challenge...there is a greatarticle in the health pages on tapering..the thomas recipe can also help..writing out a taper day by day and picking a QUIT day is important...if the addict screws up during the taper, QUIT day is still QUIT day...a down time in a schedule like a long weekend or a vacation (not a fun vacation ):  ! is recommended

Just curious???  How do bananas help with tapering?  I do know they r high in potassium like orange juice and chicken breasts and in theory to help rls (caused by a lack of dopamine production after cessation of narcotics while the brain heals)...but have ever seen them as part of a taper?

i would say bananas help calm the rls you are going to feel during mild w/ds while lowering your dose

They just help I dont know why. Probably the potassium, I know this is my fault and there were other causes than the dr's. But i never had one ever say anything about the side effects. I just wish i had been better informed, not to worry I'm getting informed and putting it to good use. I am kinda feeling unusual after reading justintimes letter I got to sit down and think, that hit me hard when I read it.

My doc is embarrassed that she put me on these meds.  (oxys)  She said that she had no idea it would be so bad and thought it was the answer for my chronic pain.  Of course I thought so too at the time, but then upped I went.

Shes supportive now but seems to think wd is only 1 day....HA
