40 days clean from Soma, 6 days off Norco

I'm on this board and also the pain mgmt board since I deal with chronic back pain.

after taking my norco for 1 week I chose to dump the rest out this was last monday. We're at almost a week without now and I hurt like hell (prior back injury w/nerve damage) and I'm not sleeping well or eating well. after 1 day the stomach problems stopped and it took the first 3 days for my pain to level out, my pain has leveled out at about a 4 most times but can spike to an 8 or 9 with activity. I know that if I had some here during that first few days that I'd most likely end up taking more than my dose trying to get my pain under control. Rebound pain is NOT fun but that's not a cycle I want and I don't want my husband to have any worries about me either.

My husband and I are getting along better. I noticed that although I was able to get off the norco w/minimal w/d (been taking them the greater part of a year)  when I took them even if it was just 1/2 the prescibed dose I could become a downright B**** and it was usually my husband I lashed out at. almost like I had no filter on what came out of my mouth.

I've got an appointment with my dr on wednesday to discuss alternative treatments or even something not quite as strong as the norco or an ER type med (are there any that are NOT strong like oxys?). I'd ask for tramadol but I break out in hives when I take it so I'm going to see what the dr. suggests.  I'm just past 1 month clean on Soma. Right now I'm just keeping aleve and tylenol on board around the clock along with flexeril, using hot baths and taking unisom at bedtime. I have to say I'm proud of myself lol.

once we get a prior auth for an MRI I can get it and then start with spinal injections or SIJ injections (we aren't sure what the exact problem is.)

taperme~ I have tried motrin. I interval motrin and aleve because if I stick to just one it doesn't do much of anything. so I take motrin 2x a day and aleve 1-2x a day. Tylenol 4x a day.

some really cool things to update on. after I created my thread I went and got a hot bath, then put on a lidoderm patch and a heat wrap. I went to bed with nearly NO pain!! yes I had to take unisom and then extra overnight but I got up this morning and the nerve pain was really bothering me so before I got out of bed I took aleve and tylenol and opened up the packets for my heat patchs so they could warm up (air activates them)

It's 1pm and I've been up since 5:30am.  I haven't even taken flexeril today, only tylenol, aleve, and motrin!!  I got up for the first time since before my injury with no narcotic meds in my system and cleaned my kitchen and then played with my boys....I took the heat patch off a few hrs ago and am still feeling pretty good.  I think I'm just going to ask my dr to not bother refilling the medication and go from there. :) YAY! lol

Have you tried Motrin instead of Aleve? Aleve did nothing for me, but I found Motrin did actually help quite a bit. Also I found these Bayer's Crystals at the pharmacy that I take in addition to Motrin when I am really in pain...they seem to also really help. You may find like me that the pain really does lessen in a few weeks. I am at about 35 days or so and I'm definitely in less pain than when I was on Norco. Good luck!

thanks. I think that for the most part the rebound pain has resolved because that first couple days was hellish.

I hope that the doctor can get me approved for the MRI and then we move on w/spinal injections.
