I'm on day 5! I actually spent my labor day vacation at home wd'ing. I'm awake and ready to go to work. My most difficult day was 3 and 4. I woke this morning, made breakfast, coffee and i actually feel somewhat like a normal human being. With a lil back ache but as of this minute, i feel better. I actually slept 6 hours straight last night. Keep it up, it's hard and you you wanna give in, but each day gets better. I was like you. I counted to the minute when i had my last pill. As of 622 pm tonight, it will be officially 5 days. I just work to make to then. Much love and prayers to you! Read all the other posts from other wd's, it helped me so much.

Not sure if it would help, but I have a 2 prescriptions for topical gels/creams.  One is called Voltaren and it's used for small joints (and I think that would apply to a knee.)  The other is a compounded one that has no name; they just prescribe a bunch of things and the pharmacist mixes it up.  I switch back and forth between them.  Lately I'm finding the Voltaren works better for me.

And I use Alteril for sleep and think it's great.  I also use Valerian Root for sleep and anxiety and think it works better than the Ativan and Ambien I used to take.

Update: today at noon will be 7 days. I feel a lot better except my knee pain which is why I was taking meds to begin with. How do you stop pain without taking meds. Anyway the wd symptoms have almost gone except for sleep and I seem to be eating more. Thanks for the support guys and gals

Unfortunately, the sleep thing is just part of it for just about everyone here who has been through it!  It's the pits too.  There are some OTC things that can help.  I tried Alteril.  Nyquil is ok for a few nights if you get desperate.  I would only take it after about the 4th day.  And just one dose before you need to go to sleep.  (you can take it with melatonin or alteril too cause those are both natural supplements)  A warm bath can help some too.  It helped me to try to identify what was causing the insomnia and try to treat that!  (Like, RLS or whatever.)

I'm happy to pray for you!  You can make it.  Anyone can do it, but you have to change your whole life.  Change your thinking.  Concentrate on staying busy so that you break the habit of thinking about pills.  Man, it's a hard habit to break too.  I had a hard time with it.  I had done it for so many years that it was my life!!!!!

You are really about to turn a corner!  Please hang on and don't cave!

I whole heartedly want off lortab.4 knee surgerys in 3 years now they want to do another. But you get to where you are eating pills like candy and life is good till you get mood  swings or run out or tolerance increases then its more and more then they send you to pain mgmt and they just give you 2--300 lortab 10s a month. Then that's all you think about. You  know I am glad I am able to talk about here. My wife and two kids don't know about it they think everything is fine. It's far from it. Right at this moment I feel I will crave them for the rest of my life. If you do pray I could use it.

Hey! Hang on.  You are about to start feeling much better!  This is the very worst it will be, I promise.  By tomorrow you should feel much better!  Take a hot bath whenever you need to or when you're having anxiety.  It could calm you some.  Also, breathe really deep and slowly.  It slows the heartrate and lowers the BP.  Do you have any Imodium?

Hey pk, The first 2-5 days are the worst as far as anxiety, diahrea, sleep and anyother wd symptome you're experiencing.  In the right hand column is the Thomas Recipe and Amino Protocol...many folks swear by these to help with the wd symptoms.  Drink A LOT of water and/or gatoraide, this will help to keep you hydrated.  If you can try to eat rice cakes, toast and bananas, these will help with the stomach issues.  Also, Immodium is a great help with the diahrea.  Not sure if you have the restless legs yet, but Hylands Restless Legs helps with that, you can get that at either Walgreens or WalMart.  I know it's hard right now, but you got to force yourself to get up and move around.  Get outside for some fresh air and walk around a bit, this will also help.  Usually after 5 days things will seem a little brighter each day.  For me, the last to come back were the sleep and energy.  I think it took about 4 weeks for things to start feeling normal again for me.  Hot bath are a very good source of comfort.  Take many throughout the day with Epsom Salts, this will help with the aches and relax you.  Remember, take each day as it comes, don't get to overwhelmed with thinking too many days ahead, it's a battle that we win each day.  What helped me sleep was a combination of Advil PM & Chamomile tea right before bed.  The RLS drove me crazy and luckily for me I had a very low dose script for a muscle relaxer.

Congrats on making the decision to take your life back and on your 2 days clean.  In my opinion it's 10% physical and 90% mental.  Keep thinking about how your life was before the pills and how wonderful it's going to be after.  We are all here if you need support or encouragement.

Stay strong, stay positive and God Bless....Dave

Ughhhhhh it would  be so much relief just to medicate. I called the pharmacy and removed my refill. After this crap it would be for nothing if I just refilled.3 days 3 hrs still having symptoms way worse at times. Some times not as bad.

Hang in there! Your almost there, Soak in a hot tub if you can. Remember all the reasons you needed to stop those pills. Your getting your life back, just going to be another day of discomfort. Take a walk or a swim if you can and take some immodium to settle your tummy. You can do this. It is now or never.Good luck, I have faith in you.

Hey man u should start feeling better tom but def by the following day. The w/d's dont last that long  although it often feels like forever. The sleep issue if your having prob will take up to 7 days to be almost back to normal. But your almost out of the clear with the worst of it jst hang in there a bit longer and you will notice considerable difference in the next 24-48hrs
