6 days clean!! But something bad happened this morning.

I was starting to actually feel a bit better yesterday morning from my oxy withdrawels, the end was in site, then a nightmare hit me like a train last night. Out of nowhere, I start getting these wierd creepy crawly feelings in my arms and legs, I cannot get to sleep at all, it quickly gets worse through the night. I start having these mini convulsions and plunge into a pain I have never felt before.

This is not apart of my oxy withdrawel, I am searching frantically through the internet seeing if I am having a reaction or something from the supplements I am taking etc etc as I get worse and worse.

Then a light bulb went off in my head. 2 days into my oxy withdrawel I stopped taking my high dosage of sleeping meds to try some natural sleeping remedies.( I was out of them anyways, but did not feel like going to my apointment to get my refill)  The sleeping med I suddenly stopped that day was Temazapan aka Resoril.

So, here I am this morning dealing with the end of my acute oxy withdrawels, and getting assaulted by a benzo sleeping pill withdrawel. I was so stupid, I never had a prob with suddenly stopping sleeping meds, but I never stopped taking restoril abruptly before. Thank GOD, I was able to get an apointment today to get my refill.

Always research the prescription drugs the doctor gives you before you take them!! I had absolutely no idea stopping restoril abruptly can cause seizures and convulsions.

I will continue to take the restoril, it works great and sadly it is the only sleeping med my insurance will cover. The natural remedies I was trying where useless. I have allways had serious sleeping problems.

So I finally took a sleeping pill, slept for a few hours, and woke up to a whole new world. The 6th day of freedom from Opiates. I am winning the battle!!

Another "benzos to the rescue" story! Some posters here are, with quite valid concerns, against taking any drug in this class during w/ds, but I disagree. You get your sleep, you make better decisions. There's hope, instead of dread when the sun goes down and you're doomed to another night of racing-mind madness.

Some clinics (rehabs) use Valium, or let you take it if it's already prescribed and you've been on it for awhile ... otherwise, phenobarbital is on the "meds" cart if you can't sleep. I think it's a bad time to experiment with herbal "remedies," because your system is accustomed to pretty strong stuff anyway. Valerian and other stuff made me sicker ...

Of course, the danger is another addiction, but after what you've been through, I think that likelihood is low.

Temazepam is less likely to be abused anyway, given its hypnotic properties. Good thing you remembered! Eventually, it's wise to taper off that one, too, but the big issue here is making w/ds a little more bearable.

Good luck to you, and all the best.

Like you said, research is your friend.

Temazepam is a fairly short acting benzodiazepine.  Just like Xanax or Ativan, they can do bad things if you suddenly stop.  Cold turkey on opiates will make you feel like you are going to die for a while, but cold turkey on benzodiazepines can really kill you.

Be careful with them and if you are planning on stopping them, talk to your doc about a taper on them.  Its the only safe way to come off of benzos.

Good luck and be safe...
