ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
80mg Codeine

80mg Codeine

i've been taking around 80mg of Codeine (5 x 16mg dosages through day) for 15 years. I've just realised that I therefore have a drug proble. I am desperate to stop - Can't see my GP/Doctor for various reasons. My question is, if I go cold turkey will the low dose I've been taking work in my favour or will I suffer hell. Also if I go cold turkey, will I crave the tablets (I don't at present) what will stop me rushing out to the pharmacy and buy more? I have 6 days off work starting today - my last dose was 6 hours ago. Feel ok at present.

I would say after 15 years yes you will have w/d as for how bad everybody is different. The only thing that will stop you from buying more is YOU! How bad do you want to get clean? The more you want it the more you will fight the urge to get more! just my opinion

thanks - i've decided that I am not taking amy more and therefore will continue on cold turkey - over 6 hours since last tablet - longest time before that was 12 hours a couple of weeks ago and a flu did kick in. I can cope with any pain apart from headaches, so i'm hoping that won't happen I contacted one of those on line doctors earlier - they said don't do cold turkey - but i think tapering might be more of a pain. Like smoking, that can't be tapered. It is a great relief already knowing that there are others out there and are willing to help (So may i help others in the future, i hope so) I don't think I have ever been so scared of a medical problem before as this problem - it came out of the blue to realise that I am a drug addict, pure and simple. I jsut remmebered 15 years ago dr gave me 120 x 30mg per month for years - thats 120mg - when that stopped i went on to these damn over the counter stuff - i had no idea that one day i would have stop - aaaaagh!

Hey!

Don't beat yourself up over this.  You now realize U have a problem and that is the first step.  Try to stay strong.  You can do this.  Dont' let the pills trick you into giving in.  The OTC codeine you get from the chemist has lots of acetaminophen that can blow your liver if you take too much.  You are doing the right thing and you Can DO this!!!

Please stay strong & keep reading and posting.

luv,
nauty..........

Hi There,
I just fessed up to my husband and my dad a few weeks ago that I was addicted to percocet, and husband said to me " Everyone gets knocked down. It's getting back up thats important". Silly, simple sentence but it did help me to stop beating myself up so much. Lots of people mess up. Some of us with drugs, some with infidelity, some with stealing, lying, etc...but those of us with pure hearts ( meaning good people who WANT to do things right) have an advantage.
I am not a bible pusher by any means, and will not encourage you to pray to a certain God, although I am a Christian...I will just encourage you to pray, period. To whatever higher power you believe in. If you don't have one, find one. Doesn'lt have to be religious. I used to roll my eyes when I heard ppl say you can do anything you set your mind to...I'm starting to believe it. Have some faith in yourself. If you don't feel it, fake it till you make it!

i managed to quit smoking, so that is how i'm approaching this. It can be done, it must be done. Feeling not too bad at moment. bad legs, a bit anxious, got some vitamin b and tyrosine and herbal calm tablets - they may help. I agree, i do want to fix my addiction. Its just amazing that I duped myself for so long, then suddenly realised i needed these pills just to be normal. I never knew that stopping them would give me somelike a bad flu - but not flu.

I'm getting there - very bad diarhea (diarrhea) today. But in the main, its not been as bad as my fears at first - thank you people, for your help. If any one is planning to come off even a low dose, there will be a price to pay - but i know this is going to be worth it.
