A few woman ask about opiate addiction and pregnancy.

If CT withdrawals are a nightmare for an adult, think of how it is for a newborn baby..

Here is an alarming story from the sentinal.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/health/os-prescription-drugs-born-addicted-20110205,0,7679343.story

Florida's prescription-drug epidemic — already responsible for nearly seven deaths a day — is taking its toll on the youngest, most vulnerable in our communities: newborns.

In 2009, nearly 1,000 babies born in Florida hospitals were treated for drug-withdrawal syndrome. They're irritable. They don't eat well. They can spend days, even weeks, detoxing.

And the number is skyrocketing.

From 2006 to 2009, there was a 173 percent increase in newborns treated at hospitals for drug-withdrawal syndrome in Florida, according to Agency for Health Care Administration records obtained by the Orlando Sentinel........

It used to be that infants born with drug-withdrawal symptoms were more likely to be suffering from a crack-cocaine addiction. But doctors, nurses and social workers in Central Florida say cases of "crack babies" are dwindling, while cases of prescription-drug dependence are becoming more prevalent......

That is unfortunate. I have really bad chronic pain, and have been taking prescription pills for the past 4 years. It bothers me but I hate pain.. So when I got pregnant I was like What the hell do I do?? My High Risk Dr (because I am type 1 I have a high risk prenatal dr) said to take no more then 6 a day and the baby will not have withdrawal symptoms because they baby gets less then 2% of what I take, it will not effect him. But that is really insane how people can just munch and pop these things like nothing when they are pregnant and have no real reason! They say that the benefits must outweigh the risk and I get that, but who decides the benefits? The patient? Some people are really manipulative and can find reasons and Hydrocodone is not really a high narcotic compared to percocet or oxycontin, but I take it and really fear what is going to happen regardless of what the dr says. I am due in 5 weeks for a scheduled c-section and I am looking forward ot meeting my lil dude and I can handle anything it takes to make him comfortable and safe, I am not the type to sit and cry over what happened and whats to come becuase life is what it is and you either deal with it or dwell. I can't depend on what other people say so I am going to try to get on bedrest so I won;t have such bad pain and hopefully stop taking the pills a week prior to my c-section.. how the heck do women go through so much pain when the Dr says it is safe and ok? I made a decision and refuse to be persecuted for it so I stand by my decision but for people(women) who abuse medication should be ashamed of themselves and make it harder for people to understand why real honest people need it for chronic pain during pregnancy.

It sounds like they have some good recovery plans for the mother and families.  I wonder what the Gov is trying to hide by abolishing some of the other programs??  Maybe a UA for him would be a good idea~~~
