AA is not a selfish program

I go to alot of AA meetings and have done so for the last 20 years and it wasnt till 61 days ago that i finally came to an understanding. I absolutely could not stay clean and sober by continuing to be the selfish, self centered person i have always been. It is true that we can only get clean because we want to, but a good portion od staying that way is to be of service to those about us. Like i said I go to alot of AA meetings and i have learned that i need to be humble and be of service to the best of my ability. Now, at 61 days i cant do too much, but i am a secretary of two meetings, i keep supplies for the meetings at my home and restock them as needed, i make coffee at meetings as needed and shake the hands of the newcomers or people ive never seen before. Only by getting out of self can i find some peace. My sponsor told me this, that this is not a program for people who need it, it is a program for people who want it, the cemetaries are full of people who needed it.

AGreed with 100% and beautifully written I might add.
It is impossible to dwell and sit in your own **** if you're helping another person and it is impossible to isolate if you have to be somewhere and it is impossible to be resentful if you're gratefula nd AA gives you an opportunity to be all of those things IF you take it.
