Do you need to know how much Ambien to take? I'm not sure what you need.

Ambien is in a class of drugs called sleep hypnotics.  they are not the same as a benzo's (valium, klonopin, etc.)  They do not "take the edge off" of anxiety...

i'm sorry to tell you this...

The only options i can think of right now for you that are OTC would be OTC sleeping pills maybe (i know someone who uses them when they run out of their klonopin... but I ain't no doc...) OR, there is a homeopathic pill called "Calms Forte" that helps and is used for anxiety.

and/or - call the pharmacy and ask them what OTC's would be best if you are out of klonopin-?

good luck... you'll get through....

personally, having taken them in the past, that sounds like way too much. are they 5mg? 10mg?  i believe if they're 5's, you can take 2 (but i would google it and look it up.)

and again, they do not work like benzo's - they will not help with anxiety.

Well,

For me, I had quit a (barbituate) Phenobarbital almost 7 months ago.

But I was still have been on Valium also!  When I quit the phenobarb...c/t...I had NO Control over what time, or how long, or when I would sleep for 3 weeks I suffered bad from "Chronic Insomnia" and "Exteme Anxiety"..

So, I told my Doc, and he put me on 12.5 Ambein CR....and it was supposed to be a "safe" and "non-tolerance, addictive" sleep aid....so I took for ONLY 4 Months as perscribed....and it did work, however:

I found myself doing weird things like sleep waking, and waking up and finding myself in the kitchen and so forth..(which has been found to be common).

But the worst, was in the morning when I woke up, and I would be so shaky, and my head would be "buzzing" so bad,,,that the only thing that took it away was Hyrdocodone and Valium....and I never understood what was going on, nor did I know what was causing it, unitl I researched it and called the rx about this AMBEIN..

I came to find out that is in the "Benzo" family and a little worse, because the FDA classifies it at level 4 addiction (same as all benzo's) and it is a "Sedative / Hypnotic"

After I discovered all this, I quit c/t and that was 18 days ago...and the w/d's are just now, Finally starting to disapate!

There are some old threads here from 2003 / 2004 with posts about people and their w/d's...just copy the link below, and place it into your "browser" and you will see what this Ambein can do..to some! HERE IS THE LINK:

http://www.topix.net/forum/drug/ambien/T8MMMFNQIK6VHJOV6

You can also type it in MedHelps search for "ambein + withdrawals" right above also!
GO AND READ about this Ambein....and you might think twice before taking it....to me, it is Worse than Xanax!!

Hope this helps,
Todd

hi.While ambien is not a true benzo it does tickle the same GABA receptors in the brain as ne benzo.WDs are the same as ne benzo and a slow reduction is the safest way to dtox. Most benzos fall in2 1 or more of 3 classes.Anxiolytics,Hypnotics or Antiseizure.Halcion(triazolam)is a Hypnotic like Ambien but does little 2 relieve anxiety. Not all benzos r suitable for treating anxiety states.Take care with this drug.If yr blacking out u r taking 2 much.

I take 10mgs. of Ambien when I need it but I also take Ativan during the day. Along with my pain pills that I am trying to get off of. 1 thing at a time right? I do like the Ambien but I don't use it unless I really need it. It is NOT for use during the day or for anxiety. Just for sleep. It does help a lot with sleep. If you want to know anything more please let me know. Ggin35

you know, i had a buddy who had the same prob's with Ambien - "Ambien blackouts."  i never had that problem with it... it just put me to sleep and i was fresh in the morning.  but it effects everyone different.

i just know when my anxiety got bad a year or two back, the anxiety specialist/psychiatrist told me to quit taking that and take klonopin for sleep - it would address the sleep issue (which the Ambien did not anymore, since the anxiety became more the issue) and the anxiety, as it would stay in my system. and it did.

BUT - what you want to know is what you can do for your anxiety.

i urge you to either get into your doc as soon as you can (tell him/her your plight) OR call your local pharmacist (and another, and another if need be) to see what OTC's might help.

and again - there are certain herbs/homeopathic remedies that will help as well.

good luck... don't panic.  just roll your sleeves up in the morning and do the work.

you can do it!!!

good luck to you... g'nite friend. (and at least you got the ambien for sleep!! and rest does help reduce anxiety!!)

i will be back in the a.m. if i can help (or try to) further...

good luck to you...

No it is not a benzo... I would not take it to do anything but sleep... taking during waking hours could be bad news...

Benzodiazepines

The benzodiazepine family of depressants is used therapeutically to produce sedation, induce sleep, relieve anxiety and muscle spasms, and to prevent seizures. In general, benzodiazepines act as hypnotics in high doses, anxiolytics in moderate doses, and sedatives in low doses. Of the drugs marketed in the United States that affect central nervous system function, benzodiazepines are among the most widely prescribed medications. Fifteen members of this group are presently marketed in the United States, and about 20 additional benzodiazepines are marketed in other countries. Benzodiazepines are controlled in Schedule IV of the CSA.

Short-acting benzodiazepines are generally used for patients with sleep-onset insomnia (difficulty falling asleep) without daytime anxiety. Shorter-acting benzodiazepines used to manage insomnia include estazolam (ProSom
