max recommended Tylenol/acetaminophen/APAP is 4g (4000mg) per day.
for chronic (daily) use, 2000mg is the recommended max. however, there are many people, including me, that have used much more Tylenol than that for years with no adverse effects (verified via liver tests.)
the liver is one organ in your body that is actually able to regenerate, so long as it is not so damaged that regeneration is impossible.
it is a good idea to use N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) when you take Tylenol. NAC is the antidote for Tylenol poisoning. it is a chemical precursor to glutathione which is a liver enzyme responsible for detoxifying the by-products of Tylenol metabolism. i use enough NAC to cancel out a couple Tylenols (~1200mg NAC/day). it is a 'dietary supplement' and can be found at your local GNC or drugstore for about $10 for 60 600mg capsules.
if NAC is taken, it should be taken with an equal amount of Vitamin C to avoid kidney stones.
keep in mind that if you took a potentially fatal dose of Tylenol (estimated at 7000mg at one time, but it varies in people), NAC would be administered via IV at the hospital over the course of days. people that survive such an event usually go on with no liver problems, as the liver can regenerate.
to the original poster, i think you are well within the limits of Tylenol usage and should not worry about it. if seeing the doctor makes you feel better, go have some tests done.
be well.
I take 6 10-500 Hydros a day and have the same thing you are talking about.I have been taking them for almost 3 years. Not that big of a dose in the begining but the last 6 months my dose had to be increased. I have a full check up every 6 months and have never had any liver problems. I know what you mean thought, when this first started (the pain in my side espcially) I was worried. I am told not to exceed 4000 mills which is 8 a day. Mine seems to vary sometimes it hurts allot and sometimes its a just dull pain and right now nothing. Don't take any chances though get it checked out.
Even though I have been taking them for a long time? The most I have ever had in a 24 hour period is 6, but I try and keep it at no more than 4.
It is unlikely even if you've been on them for years at that dose, but anything is possible. Go see a doc if you don't want him to know about your addictin then tell him that you take tylenol everyday
I don't think Tylenol is meant to be taken at 2-3 grams a day for extended periods of time. Please go see your doctor.
sorry that was supposed to be drew
What did your doctor say when you told him about the pain? I have only been taking them at that dose since the beginning of January. Before then, it was 2 a day. I appreciate everyone's comments. I think I am going to go to a doctor anyway because it is all I can think about. I am so scared that I am killing my liver.
maybe your constipated and I'm serious not trying to be silly or anything but these really mess with digestion and elimanation. constipation hurts like that just a thought because i 've had abdominal pain like that and I just need ed to do you know what.
thanks for your reply. I actually thought of that too. I bought some laxatives to try and help, but would that explain the pain in my back on the right side?
actually laxatives bad I did them for a couple years straight now I take something called cleansemore from the digestive company its the renew life brand at the health food store they have a cleanse too. I call it shiat more sorry I'm silly but not constipated just my brain gets constipated every once in awhile . good luck check it out you'll feel so much better fartings good too.
You can take two 500mg tylenol every 4 hrs. If you are only taking 4 a day I doubt that it is the pain med causing your abd. pain. Absoulutly if you were on a lot more I would say they might be causing it, but at that dose I highly doubt it. See you Dr. just tell him you take 4 tylenol a day. Good Luck to you.
