Addicted from 1993

Sir,
Myself is sanjay sharma and i am taking cough syrup more than a 5 bottles in a day some times 6, I am a father of 2 kids and I wants to leave this addiction is there any solution and i am finding that to remeber some past i have to think very deeply and plzzz tell me the side effect of the cough syrup.

It's all depends on what kind of cough medicine. Narcotic cough medicine or the DM type? I was hooked on narcotic cough medicine for years and got my addiction stated on it before there were even hydro pills. I had to drink some rough stuff like turpenhydrate and codeine and some other nasty stuff before I found the cleaner stuff but am not going to get into all that. There can be some problems from the other ingredients in cough medicine.

Possibly codeine i guess if it is narcotic...codeine may be legal otc there....have heard of kids abusing the DM.....dont know

I do not think it was a bogus question at all.  There was a time when you could get narco syrup over the counter at any pharmacy.
It maybe in other countries that it is the same way.
I believe that the writers name is sanjay, not the cough syrups name.
Are you writing from India?  Can you just get the syrup over the counter there?
From what I understand, you will go through w/d just like pills.
Taper off, slowly.  Have a friend or family member keep the bottles, then you have to not buy it anywhere, and follow your taper plan.  Perhaps you could see a Dr to help you  out.

Yes everybody ...... that narcotic (codeine) cough syrup is purchased OTC in several countries, India among them.  Those syrups need to be treated just as any narcotic for withdraw.........they do compound health problems with a cocktail of other cough meds involved in the formulary. .........  they can get the narcs easily, but the amino's are harder and more expensive - I would think many with 5 yr histories should be advised ot the depression and some therapy for it...... Thomas Recipe is adequate for immediate withdraw.....

Sanjay, do u smoke marijuana with syrup? I was also use to took 4-5 bottle. Now i am using once a month & qnty is 50% of a bottle.

i hope now u are clean. i had been addicted to cough syrup for 4year and my wife son left me, i had been so depressed, i know the pain of quitting cough syrup, i dont have much friend and i use cough syrup to make me feel better for my depressed for the past 4year. because of those addicted drug med it mess my life up and i regret taking it but i know it's too late for me to save my marry and painful past. right now i try to quitting it and take a new life may god bless me
