Addicted to Buprenex-Methadone to get off

I read a post on here about using Methadone to short term detox. As well I have read and believe the horrors of Methadone addiction. After going cold turkey for 23 days and resetting the clock by using Buprenex to try quiet the withdrawls. Got me back on Buprenex. That was the worse thing, that was in January and I still have the trauma from that w/d session. But I kept on reading. I ran across an article here on a guy who used Methadone to get off his OXY habit as I recall. He used minimal doses for three or 4 days and was succesfull at detox. Stated how he did not feel so good while doing It, but that he did feel fine. Currently I was on 1.2 AMPS a day of Buprenex. This last Friday I  asked my Doctor for Methadone to treat my pain and was granted a RX. Friday afternoon I took my last Buprenex dose and started my first Methadone dose of 5MG. I have not been uncomfortable since starting it. I feel better that I was feeling. After a while Buprenex just makes you feel worse and worse. That is where I was. So anyway I do not feel super great. In no  way can I complain. This is completly doable at this point. I still have Buprenex in my blood so it will get worse I suspect. I believe I can counter it with minimal Methadone dose increases. I stil remeber/haunted by the C/T from Buprenex was so intense at 3 weeks out. I am only hoping I can get off Methadone before becoming adicted to it. Buprenex withdrawls last a long time. I have been using about 12.5 MG of Methadone a day. 5MG every 12 Hours with 2,5 MG in beetween. If any one has expirience in detoxing this way I would like to hear about it. It is day 2 going on day 3 and doing just fine. As I say it looks to be a matter of timing and I could be off the Buprenex and still be able to walk/run away from Methadone without addictcion setting in. I have slept like a baby and was not able todo that while on the Buprprnex anymore, as I said you feel worse as you stay on buprenex. I have no complaints. Just anxious to stop the Methadone.

That is the good news as I see it now. So hope this may give someone something to think about.

I can not help u as i have not taken eithr drug nor ever read a post using this method of going back and forth.....in the end i think u may have to feel a withdrawal of some sort so maybe just stay where u r at and taper down and get this done....it is hard to outsmart withdrawls..lots of support here...do keep posting as some have experience with these drugs

I have not taken the drug you are speaking of either, but I have taken methadone..please do not take it for any more than a few more days..You will wish you hadn't..methadone is a horrid w/d and you don't have to be on a high dose to experience it..please..I was in the worst hel! I could have ever imagined for at least 3 weeks and then another 3 weeks of w/d symptoms like the hydros give you..not fun..you should start cutting the methadone down asap..you may feel a little uncomfortable but as Worried said..it is hard to outsmart w/ds and you will experience some..hopefully just not as bad..there is very very few that have ever posted that they got off their drug with no w/ds of anykind..and I don't even know if thats right..i am basically saying that incase someone has..but I have been on this forum since january..maybe 1 or 2..thats it..good luck..

Be careful with methadone as it has a long half life & doesnt take very long to get addicted to it, & trust me it doesnt matter how high or low your dose is, almost everyone detoxing off of it will suffer some withdrawals. I detoxed off of it a month in a half ago & it was hard, their were times when I didnt think I was gonna ever feel normal again. The longer you stay on it, the harder its gonna be, so do yourself a favor & stop as soon as possible. Penelope
