Addicted to Oxycodone

I have been on Oxycodone for over 2 years now.  I started going to the doctor for flu like symptoms and missing alot of work, and my doctors just couldn't find anything wrong with me.  I was finally sent to an athrocare specialist because all my symptoms were bone and joint related, headaches, neck aches, and my legs and arms always hurt.  Like I said it felt like I had the flu.  I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was given Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Oxycodone. At first the oxycodone worked great, and minutes after I took it I felt the pain disappear, but also noticed that I got a feeling as though I could worry about nothing which I liked very much. At first I was taking 1 to 2 every 4 to 6 hours and I was only taking 1, but as time went on, I started taking 2 and then more than 2 every 4 hours and then 2 sooner.  Before long I was taking more than prescribed and when I would run out the first time, I noticed the w/d symptoms were awful. Sweating, depression, the pain was worse than ever and I couldn't even get out of bed. I had no apetite and just slept for days until I could get my refills. Now I just want to get off the stuff because I always run out before I'm supposed to and I panic because I know what I'm in store for with the w/d symptoms. I'm afraid to tell my doctor about it for fear that he will stop giving them to me altogether. Has anyone else gone through this, and if so what are you doing or did you do to make this better. Is there anything out there that substitutes oxycodone to get me off the stuff so that I don't have to go through the w/d or DTs?

Sounds like my story.  I ran out of my medication but the bottle says take every 4-6 hours which I do not do I take 2 in the afternoon and 2 early am 10mg. I am now out of my rx and have to wait two weeks for my next one.  I am going to tell my   I have to take two not one. Just worried if I say that he will not give to me at all. I dont know I should get off them.  I am suffering with severe leg pain, low grade fever and sneezing.  I am not sure if it is flu or not.  He did give me  new pill called Nucenta.  It is ok but does work as good as oxycodone

damn im going through the same thing. i have sickle cell disease and have to take a lot of pain meds in order for me not to experience any pain on a daily basis. i found myself taking 4 15mg pills of oxys a day.  this **** is getting crazy. i found this website because im trying right now to find other alternative in a way out of this ****. im w/d right now because i ran out of pills earlier. i dont want to start another drug to cure me of this drug. that wouldnt be the route for me. i guess i can take merrymaria's word and wait the 5 days for the physical pain to stop and keep fighting through the mental.

I heard if you bump up your dosage it helps. At one point, I was taking 10mg a day and would become extremely depressed. I bumped it up to taking 20mg a day and with 5 hour energy and its helped greatly.

hi there...yes sub...some pros, some cons.  you could try a taper to relieve the wds somewhat...i did ct after a 3 1/2 year addiction taking about 10 a day...i prepared for wds by taking 2 weeks off and just getting detoxed without any pressure.  most of the physical  wds are over within 5 days...just the mental stuff and depression hang on a bit.  i can t tell you how much better life is without pain pills.  i d go through a script real quick and had to pay high dollar to get me through...what a waste...you can do it.  this place is a great place to be...keep posting.   maria

Honey... You've got Fibro... which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy....
With that said.... see if you can get OFF the pain meds and just stay with the Lyrica and Cymbalta.. (I've heard that both of these meds can really help with Fibro... )

Getting OFF the pain meds will BE HARD... but you can do it.... and I truly think that you will "feel" ALOT better when ya do... it just takes time.. plus please let your doctor know what's going on.. as he/she can help you get thru this..

Hang in there and keep posting... cuz we all care about you...

Hugs and Prayers your way!

If you are serious about quiting than you need to talk to your doctor. There are a couple methods but neither will work if you arent serious about quiting. You will need to go to na or aa to deal with your addiction during the process. There is suboxone but that is a stronger drug than the oxy and needs to be used properly. The problem with the sub is that many of the doctors out there dont perscribe it properly and you just end up with another addiction. The other method is taperring down the drug until you are no longer on it. Vicaden/norco is easier to taper with so you would be switched to it instead of the oxy. You never mentioned how much oxy you are taking(mg).

what they do have to offer to stop wd is addicting in it's self..  you would still experience wd when you came off these.. There is no escaping this when any opiate is introduced be it synthetic or not.. I would speak to my Dr. You would not be the first one to say that opiates have caught you.. they were never meant for long term pain as you have found the euphoric effect.. our tolerance just increases to levels that Dr. will not prescribe for.. I was honest with mine.. he took it very well :) If I needed pain meds they would still prescribe but not just for anything.. and this is fine with me.. the experience of talking freely with my Dr. has been nothing but positive.. He can also prescribe things like clonidine and something for sleep even rls.. I'm so sorry you were caught up in this but the only way out is honesty.. especially if you have a medical condition.. just my experience.. I wish you well.. lesa
