Addicted to Oxycontin

by Churchmouse, Aug 23, 2008 05:47PM
Hello,

I need profesional (not "community" -- i.e., doctors who will not mention new drugs -- please read on) help. I have been addicted to Oxycontin for about two years. Before I was addicted to Oxycocet and Tylenol 4 and weaned mself off successfully; although, when I told the doctor that I wanted to get of Oxycocet, he said the "usual routine" is to use Oxycontin. I have been taking about 5 80 mg tablets per day. When I tell the doctor, he usually gies me new drugs or suggests a clinic (I am opposed to this because of two other sleep medications that they wanted to help me withbut I did it myself). Oxycontin is not the same -- everytime I reach 3, I hit a wall. I wish to know the best way (no matter how long it takes!) to wean myself off without a doctor or clinics. Can you please help me with some type of schedule for gradual withdrawal? Thank you very much.

If you have been doing 5 - 80mg oxies you need to taper slowly. Dropping a full 80 mg pill is too much. Thats the strongest oxy they make and its powerful. Drop by milligrams and not by pills with this situation. And oxies arent nearly as easy to quit as 60mg codeine pills(tylenol#4)....I do know. I would even suggest a change....either to oxycodone instead of the time release Contin or even another similar pain med. The time release Contin adds a new twist. Lots of people change and then quit the one that they have changed to. Do not go the methadone or sub route. Unless its at the very end of your process and is used for a max of a month. The percs james mentioned might even be something to replace the Contin with as you make plans to stop. PM me if you feel like it - but best of luck to you no matter how you do it!
