Addicted to Vicodin

I have finally come to realization that I may be addicted to vicodin. I started taking it when I was pregnant for kidney stones because they said I had no other option for pain releif as surgery was oput of the question.  A year later I was diagnose with facial neuropathy that they perscribed it for as daily pain management.
I have alwasy suffered from depression and vicodin helps me feel "normal"  after so long i have built up a tolerance and if I miss a dose i get very very sick like having the flu and go throug suicidle depression.

I want to stop. I know I need to. But I physically can't get through the withdrawls and depression.  Does anyone have advice on how I may get through this?

Hi,

I am a newbie here but have already read atleast 200 posts and have spent a lot of free time reading these posts. I myself came to this board yesterday for advice and encouregment. The people here are great and I'm sure you will find some degree of help. I think it's important to understand that IT IS BEATABLE. Withdrawl will occur but in the grand scheme of things, it's a relatively easy process. After a week or two you will physicaly feel OK, mentaly you will have to busy yourself with other things, things which you should probably be focusing on anyway; health, your kids, your job, recreational activities such as going out to movies, reading, arts and crafts, hanging out with friends...there are so many healthy things to do. Also, keep reading these posts and you will see that you are not alone. Suicidal thoughts manifest themselves durring recovery but we all know that deep down it's your life you want back, not the other way around. Life is so great, especially once you overcome these bumps. You have just admited that you are an addict, THATS OK! It's GOOD that you are aware...STEP ONE, some consider it the hardest step. You are on your way to a great life and the lessons you will learn from this adventure will aid you everyday, your newfound wisdom will fortify the foundation of your livelihood. Keep talking!

I feel that you need to use this as a learning curve. Although it seems like you are on a slippery slope, it is possible to turn it into a positive - it can be used to develop your will power. Try to reduce the amount you are using by just a little bit whenever you feel up to it. Do not hurry yourself. Over time you will gradually improve, bit by bit. Take 100mg/kg of L- Tyrosine, on an empty stomach, each morning as you reduce. Do more excercise and eat healthy food as much as possible. This will work wonders. Hang in there.
