Addiction/Getting Tobacco out of the body

by shawna, Jul 06, 2000 12:00AM
I've just tried cigarettes since starting law school.  I've smoked a couple of times a week for the past few weeks.  I hope I'm not getting addicted.  How much does it take to get addicted, since I DO NOT WANT TO GET ADDICTED!!  Also, we've just signed up for this new life insurance.  The guy wants to do this swab test for HIV and stuff, but it also tells them if I've smoked.  I do not want to make it a habit, and my hubbie doesn't know that I've tried smoking.  How long does it take to get out of your system so the swab will come up clean?

hey shawna, i kind of went down the same road as you with cigarettes. i had my first cigarette a year ago (i'm 23) and since then have 'socially smoked.'  i have been adament about not being addicted, but mentally i think i kind of have become addicted in a way. when i'm around people who smoke, it's very difficult to not light up (and all my friends smoke, so ugh!). so recently, i've decided to stop smoking all together, but my will power has not been strong enough, and i think 'screw it, what's one little puff?'  i don't know, sometimes i think you could get hit by a bus tomorrow, so who cares? but then again, if you hadn't smoked, maybe you'd have run a little bit faster and missed the bus.

hi shawna
smokeing is a very bad habbit ...don't take long to get addicted to it ...best thing to do is stop now sence you just started wouldent take you long to stop but if you keep on it is a very hard habbit to stop take it from a 38 year old who has smoked for 20 years i'n still trying to stop and paying the price
you have a chose in the matter (STOP) or (DIE)
smokeing will kill you
