Addiction to Narcotics

To make a very 4 year story short. I had surgery for addicted pretty fast to pain medication then had a complete thyroid removal and was diagnosed with RA in the same year. I am prescribed 4 10/325 Narcos a day. I am also prescribed 2mg of xanax a day, thyroid replacement, Zoloft and ambien . I take about 8-15 Marcos a day. Obviously I am prescribed much less so every single month I run out, withdraw a least a day or more and have to buy them on the street which is dangerous and $6 a pill. I do not get high anymore, they barley help with pain and am so depressed I can't see straight. I am a completely different person, intact don't remember how I used to be. Everyday , everything is revolves around my pain and pain medication. Its ridiculous. I'm 32 a stay at home mother and have more guilt bottled up I'm afraid I'm going to die at times. I'm afraid to talk to any of my doctors in fear of being cut off in all honesty. Withdraw gets worse everytime and after 3 years of it I am run down, very thin , never eat and hate me. What do I do, please I need help tremendously. I want to be a sober great mommy to my only little girl. How do I stop with the pain from RA and graves disease? Its impossible it seems. Help I'd u can, just responding would me the world to me. I feel alone and scared and everyone I know is sick and tired of me and my addiction. I want to live. But am afraid I'm not going to much longer. Thanks LL

There are ways to manage pain besides pills, even though it seems hopeless. Some of your pain could actually be coming from the norcos. I know it seems scary to go through detox, but it is so worth it! I am 17 days clean today and I NEVER thought I would be here. I was much like you. I am a stay at home mom to a 14 year old, a four year old, and a 15 month old whom I still breastfeed. I did my first three days of detox at home with my husband. After that I was left alone to go through it. Did I mention I watch three other kids through the week? It can be done, but you have to want to be clean more than anything. I do not have experience with Xanax, as I have never taken it (I am an opiate addict) but I have read on here that the wd from that can be fatal. If you are prescribed the Xanax talk to your dr about a taper. Go cold turkey from the opiates. I promise you, If I can do it, anyone can. The key is to get up and move in the first three to five days. Do not stop for too long. Stay hydrated. Stay away from sodas. Find good support and great aftercare. You will need it. Getting off the pills is the easy part. Staying off is much harder. Once you are ready to stop, you will have to resign yourself to the facts that under no circumstances can you have pain meds for anything. Unless you are in the hospital under a dr's care, it can not be done. Once you leave the hospital, the drugs do not come with you. That was a hard realization for me but necessary to stay clean. I  praying for peace in your life sweetie. You can do this!!!!

hi there,
just wanted to lend my support.  I too have rheumatoid arthritis, (and crohn's disease, and primary immune deficiency and diabetes, and hypothyroid)  so I really do understand what you are going through.  I know what it is like to be a stay at home mom and trying to make it through the day when you are in pain and the only thing that will make it better is to take a pill.
please think long and hard about what you would like to do.  if you are ready to stop, I will support you 100%.  I am going through  detox from fentanyl and oxycodone right now and this sight has been my savior.  There is an unbelievable amount of caring people that are here 24/7 to cheer you on and keep you on the right path.

please let me know what you would like to do,
phoenix

Hi, I totally agree, STAY AWAY FROM XANAX, so many people are prescribed it and I think half those people don't need something so damn strong. And IM sorry your going through such a rough time. But you really are not alone!!! I wish I could offer you some advise but IM not experienced with pills, I just wanted you to know I care about what your going through. I hope you make it through the other side safely.

Hi there and welcome! Are you wanting to quit both the Xanax and the Norcos, or just the Norcos? If you are wanting to quit the Xanax, it needs to be tapered under the supervision of a doctor. As far as the Norcos go, you can either try a taper, or bite the bullet and go cold turkey. Since you are getting these from your doctor, it would be best to be 100% honest and tell them everything. I know this is scary, but they can help you. Doing this also cuts your source to get more pills in the future. I would also highly suggest deleting the numbers of the people you are buying them from. Change your number if you have to. As addicts, if we have access to the pills, we will more than likely relapse. Please stick around here and keep posting. It's a great place for support and encouragement. As you start your detox and start having symptoms, let us know and we can offer advice on what helped us through. Congratulations on taking the first huge step to getting your life back! Take care of yourself and good luck to you!
