Addiction withdrawal why can't we sleep..

by rod05, May 26, 2009 09:26AM
Hi everybody just getting a little bit frustrated I am 27 days clean from a 4 year tramadol addiction and i still can't sleep RLS got me big time...

The first week was just crazy 1 hr a night but now I am getting 4 or 5 hrs which is good and I am not complaining cause I know it will pass and in coming months i will be back to normal sleep ..But i just wondered why can't we sleep..

And Tramadol is a confusing and crazy drug I will never touch again ever....

I don't really know who I am yet but I know I never want to be that trapped in the tramal corner  again

Hi Rod!  I hear ya.  I've been off Oxycontin for just over a month too, and I'm getting about 6 hours a night only because I'm taking a sleep aid (much like Nytol), but using a double dose.  But your question as WHY can't we sleep.  I'm afraid I haven't got an answer to that one, so I'll wait for others to answer, as I'm very interested in what they may have to say.  Hang in there, Buddy!  The folks here are fantastic!

I am also curious about this one. Quite familiar with the problem but not the etiology.

it took me forever to find sleep after wds...uggh those endless nights tossing and turning.  it took about 2 months to finally sleep pretty well...if i get 6 hours i m a happy camper.  i don t know why we can t sleep after wding...maybe it s something in the brain..i have heard about hylands for restless leg syn....you can get it at walmart or drug store....congrats on those 27 days....keep going and good luck to you...maria

You may work at re-setting your biological "sleep clock" by taking melatonin about 2 or 3 hours before sleeptime. Melatonin is an amino acid and will not cause any further problems. Still dont know the reason.........

Melatonin is a great idea.  I've heard many people are successful with it.  And it doesn't leave you groggy either.  I used it a long time ago for jet lag, and was happy with the result.
