Addiction?

by ElphabaRose, Jan 01, 2008 01:33AM
Would addiction include OTC medications as well?  Or is that more just high tolerence?  A friend of mine can take about 40 aspirin in a 2 hr frame and not have any effect on them.  Would that be an addiction to aspirin?  Taking so much almost on a daily basis?  Or at least taking some sort of amount every day.  Could aspirin become addictive even if there isn't any real addictive behavior to it?  How can you see if that much aspirin has done any damage or anything to their body.

That kind of addiction would be more psychological than physical. People can become addicted to simply taking pills. I don't believe there is any real "high" benefit to taking aspirin as it is not a narcotic, but I have known people to be addicted to ibuprofen and tylenol PM. I am definitely not qualified to make any call on this, but I do believe that kind of aspirin consumption can cause organ failure. Aspirin isn't very good for your body in any more than low doses. It also eats your stomach lining...this person would need to see a doctor, be evaluated, and then likely be referred to an addiction specialist.
