Advice on methadone detox/ rapid detox

Gidday all,
                Really need some advice. Tryin to help a good mate shake a methadone addiction. Not sure of all the details but here goes.... Guy had a rough childhood and has some deep-seated issues which probably lead to his early drug and alcohol abuse (12 years old). A recurring back problem (work-related) and a pill-happy doctor lead to a heavy codeine addiction which has since been treated with 70mls methadone daily. Now 38, he's rid himself of self-medicating habits except the odd joint but can't find the willpower or advice to detox slowly off the methadone.

I have to add that this guy works with me and we work hard, long, physical hours and he is the best worker ever. He's also honest, reliable and an all-round caring human being. I've heard of the rapid detox but don't want to get his hopes up until i know more. Is it anywhere near as successful as the website claims? Hate to sound negative but i've had mates battle addiction before and it's hard to beleive there's an easy way out. Please help with advice and personal experiences, especially any other aussies who know of solutions in australia. cheers

hi i've been in a outpatient methadone treatment program now 4 years
for abusing oxycodone hcl , percocets , oxycotins etc
i started on 32mg 4 years ago i am now on 8mg dropping
2mg every few months and i feel fine i quit my cocaine
habit that i had along with my oxy habit, i never used dope (heroin)
and never used needles just pills and sniffed cocaine
anyhow my advice is theres no " fast " detox only a slow 1

in the midst of a methadone taper right now. i'm no doctor but i'm gonna jump out on a limb and say theres no such thing as a rapid detox. (at least not without feeling like you wanna die). again, just my opinion.  btw, if anyone discovers a rapid detox without the withdrawals, please write me with details..  peace,  jesse

I'm inquiring about Methadone Radip Detox.  Anyone been through it?

What little I know of methadone is to slowly taper off of it. As Mary said, there will be others that have methadone experience that will chime in. Good Luck.

Don't have any advise, don't know much about methadone or rapid detox. Just wanted to let you know it's slow here on the weekend so it might take a while for some responces.  Your friend is so lucky to have your support.  Don't give up on this forum if you don't get answers right away. There are such wonderful, helpful people here. Stay with us.   mary
