Alcohol Detox Question

Hi!
I am a 25 year old male.  I am in good health...take lots of vitamins daily, exercise reguraly, not overweight, excellent eating habbits and no drugs.
My only downfall has been alcoholism. I probably had my first 'drunk' experience at the age of 19, and I have drank pretty reguraly. Alcoholism runs through my family, so I was quite concerned when I started realizing my drinking habbits--basically, I never know how to stop or limit myself. I can only compare this to that of  Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
It only became a matter of time before I realized how out of control I get when I am drunk (I literally turn into a wild man) and I am getting myself COMPLETELY off the alcohol.  While this seems a task onto itself, I believe that I do have the will in me.
So, my question is about body detoxification though. I have been taking Milk Thistle DAILY for the past 5 years along with all the other important vitamins (A, Bcomplex, C, D, Calcium, E, flaxseed oil a Green Tea antioxidant, amino acid complex, and a couple others).  And while sobering up is eye opening, I am wondering about liver health and liver healing.  Should I be concerned?  Obviously, I am curbing my drinking habbits to the MAXIMUM...But is there a way that I can check the state of my liver, or any advice that I can get on caring for the liver/liver healing?  I definately feel that I have 'fallen off the path' for a portion of my life, but I want to fix it and do better from here out.  I feel absolutely fine, this question is completely from nerves/concern. I read online that the liver can be a 'silent killer.'

I will look into the AA....and go for the blood test.  Thanks for the reply J--Ive really been stressing about this one.

Out of curiousity---when you drank for the long period of time (the 22 years) did you have any side effects from the drinking or experience any liver disfunction at all?
